Description

Position Summary

A good sommelier should have total expertise in wine service and should be passionate about creating excellent drinking and dining experiences for our guests. They are ultimately responsible for increasing wine and beverage sales throughout the entire property and play an integral role in teaching coworkers about wine to ensure everyone’s knowledge is taken to the next level. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively engaged in the salesmanship of wine and beverages.
  • Greets guests in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Suggestively upsell the best wines for a guest experience
  • Take the order and accurately input it into the system.
  • Facilitates wine presentation, including decanting of wines when necessary, tasting and quality check of wines before served to the guest, and maintaining pour levels and clearing of glasses.
  • Marking tables with wine glasses.
  • Marking of bottles with proper table numbers.
  • Running food and drinks to tables when needed.
  • All beverage related service.
  • Portrays a positive and professional attitude and appearance.
  • Understands the policies and procedures of the organization and adheres to the company standards outlined in the company handbook.
  • Possesses conversational knowledge of food and beverage items served at the establishment.
  • Participates in training sessions, departmental meetings, or pre-shift meetings.
  • Ensures the well-being of all guests and co-workers by following the Company Safety Standards and maintaining compliance with the Department of Health and OSHAA. 

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Must be able to receive and carry multiple bottles of wine at a time, up to but not limited to a full case of wine.
  • Demonstrates effective oral & written communication, interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and time management ability.
  • Actively contributes as a team player by supporting co-workers throughout each workday.
  • Has a solid understanding of the job duties assigned to them and outlined in their job description.
  • Alerts management of all safety concerns immediately.

Certifications Required

  • Certification relating to Alcohol Awareness (RBS certification)
  • Food Handling Safety certification
  • Sommelier certification from an accredited program preferred.
  • Previous experience with inventory/wine management and inventory system.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Role may include job duties or tasks requiring repetitive motion.
  • Role may include exposure to hot kitchen elements or cleaning materials.
  • Must be able to work and remain focused in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with varying shifts days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
