Sous Chef, Head Pizza Maker


Description
Long standing Italian restaurant in Prospect Heights seeks Sous Chef/Jr. Sous Chef for immediate hire. We are a Roman style pizza and pasta restaurant with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients and Italian flavors. This is a great opportunity for an experienced line cook to take on managerial responsibilities including ordering, expediting, and menu planning and creation! We are happy to train qualified candidates.

Responsibilities:
High-volume artisanal pizza and pasta production
Creating weekly/bi-weekly pizza, pasta, and salad specials
Work independently as well as collaboratively under the guidance of our chef owners
Maintaining inventory of food supplies and proactively placing orders with our vendors
Instructing prep cooks on proper procedure
Communicating specials to wait staff
Expediting orders; communication between FoH, and other cooks

Requirements:
1+ year of experience in both line cook and preparation positions
Experience or open to learning ordering and managing inventory (can train the right person)
Knowledge of or willingness to learn how to make our dough from scratch daily
Familiarity with dough, starter or baking a plus
Willing to take on new responsibilities as you learn
Presentable and courteous in an open kitchen
Able to maintain an organized and clean workspace
Familiarity and/or Interest in Italian palate
Keen eye for detail and dedication to serving high quality food
Excellent time management skills
Able to speak and comprehend English
NYC Food Handlers License/ServeSafe and Spanish language skills a plus.
