Situated in Downtown’s Second Street District, Austin Proper Hotel & Residences is the newest luxury lifestyle hotel in Austin, just steps from Lady Bird Lake, the legendary Austin City Limits music venue and nearby boutiques. With inspiring interiors by Kelly Wearstler and culinary offerings in collaboration with MML Hospitality, Austin Proper offers 238 rooms and suites, a dedicated spa and fitness center, and 9,500 square feet of meeting and event spaces, including a rooftop pool deck offering small-batch tequilas and majestic lake views. Anything less just wouldn’t be Proper. 

The Director of Rooms will oversee and manage the daily operations of Front Office, Valet, and Housekeeping. This position reports to Executive Committee-member Director of Hotel Relations.

Job Overview

Director of Rooms is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the Front Office Operations (Front Desk, Bellman, Valet), Housekeeping Operations (Public Area Attendants, Housepersons, Public Area Attendants, Guest Room Attendants) while following and demonstrating Forbes Standards and Austin Proper Hotel & Residences practices.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Leadership of Rooms departments to ensure all guest are provided with quality service while maximizing room revenue and productivity while inspiring and leading all guest services and housekeeping departments
  • Ensures the quality and productivity of housekeeping/laundry (in-house) functions that guarantee the cleanliness of all guest areas, high levels of personal service delivered by housekeeping associates and a stable work force.
  • Excellence in appearance of all areas throughout the hotel
  • Producing constant improvement in guest experience satisfaction metrics
  • Participation in weekly forecasting and scheduling activities
  • Providing assistance in developing the annual hotel budget
  • Preparation of action plans as directed by management
  • Daily reviews of operating outcomes (including corrective action if required)
  • Maintaining high visibility with colleagues and guests
  • Assists and active participant in Safety Committee Program

 

Qualifications 

  • 5 – 8 years’ experience managing Front Office and Housekeeping Operations

  • College degree specializing in hotel management, business administration or equivalent experience is required
  • Possess strong leadership, communication, organization, and relationship skills
  • Experience with training, financial management, and customer service
  • Familiar and comfortable with interviewing candidates, handling colleague concerns and holding colleagues accountable
  • A true desire to exceed guest expectations in a fast-paced lifestyle luxury environment
  • Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner
  • Able to communicate effectively with the management team, guests, and colleagues
  • Team builder and ability to successfully manage and develop a team

 

Required Skills/Abilities 

  • Ability to break down barriers and resolving potential conflicts swiftly and effortlessly
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to all levels of management
  • Ability to think outside the box and approach all issues with a completely fresh approach
  • Ability to anticipate needs and over deliver wherever possible
  • Ability to change direction and work on multiple projects aspects at once
  • Enthusiastic, passionate, able to enthuse and motivate others
