Situated in Downtown’s Second Street District, Austin Proper Hotel & Residences is the newest luxury lifestyle hotel in Austin, just steps from Lady Bird Lake, the legendary Austin City Limits music venue and nearby boutiques. With inspiring interiors by Kelly Wearstler and culinary offerings in collaboration with MML Hospitality, Austin Proper offers 238 rooms and suites, a dedicated spa and fitness center, and 9,500 square feet of meeting and event spaces, including a rooftop pool deck offering small-batch tequilas and majestic lake views. Anything less just wouldn’t be Proper.

 

Job Overview

Reporting to the Banquet Captain, the Banquet Houseperson plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of banquet and event spaces. This position involves setting up, maintaining, and breaking down banquet rooms, meeting spaces, and events to meet the highest standards of quality and luxury service.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Banquet Manager and Event Coordinators to understand event requirements.
  • Set up and arrange tables, chairs, linens, and other event-related equipment according to event specifications.
  • Continuously monitor the cleanliness and appearance of banquet spaces throughout events.
  • Promptly address any guest requests for adjustments or additional items during events.
  • Ensure all event spaces are well-maintained, organized, and in pristine condition.
  • Work closely with the Banquet team, chefs, and other staff to coordinate the flow of service during events.
  • Assist in serving food and beverages when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure seamless execution of events.
  • Safely transport and handle event equipment, including tables, chairs, audiovisual equipment, and decorations.
  • Store and maintain equipment in an organized manner to ensure it remains in excellent condition.
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail to ensure event setups align with guest expectations and hotel standards.
  • Check and confirm that all items, including table settings, decor, and signage, are in place and correctly arranged.
  • Interact courteously and professionally with guests attending events, addressing their needs and requests.
  • Maintain a positive and accommodating attitude to enhance the guest experience.
  • Efficiently break down event spaces after functions, ensuring all equipment is properly stored and spaces are cleaned thoroughly.


Required Skills & Abilities

  • Proactive attitude with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse guests.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.
  • Support all co-workers and treat them with dignity and respect.
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees and departments.
  • Partner with and assist others to promote an environment of teamwork and achieve common goals.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.


Education & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • Experience in a luxury or lifestyle hospitality environment
  • Active TABC and Food Handler’s certificate
  • Must be at least 18 years’ old
