Description
The Captain Whidbey is undergoing an amazing transformation and will be re-opening this coming April.
We are building a guest experience like no other resort in the PNW and the San Juan Islands area.

Located on the shores of Penn Cove on Whidbey Island, in the heart of Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve, Captain Whidbey has provided legendary island hospitality and dining since 1907. With 30 rooms, a new restaurant and bar concept, 6 beautiful acres and a dock for seaplanes, boats, and kayaks on Penn Cove, Captain Whidbey will become the coolest place to work on Whidbey.

Purpose of Position

The position of Dishwasher is a very important role in the guest experience at Captain Whidbey. This role supports the flow of dirty dishes coming in from the dining room, bar and kitchen and is responsible for the flow of clean dishes and supplies back to their pre-determined storage locations. The speed and efficiency of this support is very important to the flow of the overall F&B operation.

Position Mission/Overview

You may be expected to complete a week of training where you will be introduced to some of our policies and daily procedures that make up your job and your responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

1. The ability to follow proper payroll and uniform procedures.
2. The ability to set up the work area properly.
3. The ability to scrape and stack all dished properly and rack all glassware.
4. The ability to pre-soak all silver.
5. The ability to set up, clean and properly operate the dish machine safely and neatly, including disassembling and assembling for cleaning, loading and unloading or dishes and silver and changing the water when necessary or instructed to.
6. The ability to separate all silverware.
7. The ability to store all china, glass, and silver in there designated locations.
8. The ability to keep the dish area neat and clean at all times.
9. The ability to clean kitchen walls, floors, drains, reach-in coolers, walk-in freezers and other locations as assigned by a supervisor.
10. The ability to utilize all cleaning materials and chemicals safely.
11. The ability to collect all china, glass and silver for banquet events and have them delivered to Function rooms.
12. The ability to set up a breakdown area and assist in the breakdown and clean up of all dirty dishes returning from a banquet room.
13. The ability to wash all pots, equipment parts, pans, etc. thoroughly in pot-wash area.
14. The ability to maintain a clean, orderly, hazard-free work area. The ability to clean messes and spills immediately.
15. The ability to notify the supervisor prior to leaving the work area.
16. The ability to report any major problem to the supervisor.
17. The ability to check with the Chefs daily for special projects to be completed.
18. The ability to complete all tasks using the utmost concern for all employees’ safety.
19. The ability to respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.
20. The ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by management and staff.

Physical Requirements of this Position

Position:
• Standing/walking
• Lifting from floor to 8’ without step stool
• Squatting, kneeling, overhead reaching
• Repetitive process of loading and unloading dishwasher
• All head/neck movements
• Repetitive shoulder, elbow, hand movements below waist and overhead
• Squatting, forward bend, kneeling, half-kneeling, hands/knees for getting inside oven, refrigerator, cabinets
• Ladder climbing
• Bending and reaching to inventory refrigerator
• Use of both hands needed to scrape food not eaten into garbage
• Lifting pots on shelf requires: repetitive bending and squatting to 12” above floor overhead reaching for stacking pots
• Carrying pots a few feet to pot washing area
• Push/pull mop and bucket

Forces/Weight:
• Stacks of plates: possibly up to 20-30 lbs.
• Trays of glassware: possibly up to 35 lbs.
• Produce: possibly up to 50 lbs.
• Push/pull force to push bucket and mop: less than 5 lbs.
• Push/pull force to push cart of plates: 25 lbs.
• Floor mats: 45 lbs.


Required Position Skills
• Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).

Other Skills/Abilities
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from your manager or other team members.
