We are building a guest experience like no other resort in the PNW and the San Juan Islands area.

With 30 rooms, a new restaurant and bar concept, 6 beautiful acres and a dock for seaplanes, boats, and kayaks on Penn Cove, Captain Whidbey will become the coolest place to work on Whidbey.
Purpose of Position
To maintain Captain Whidbey's back of house (staff area), front of house (guest areas) and 6 acres of landscaping/grounds areas in accordance with Captain Whidbey standards by performing and managing the maintenance functions of the Hotel and it’s grounds.
THIS IS A VERY ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES, HANDS ON "WORKING HEAD ENGINEER" POSITION, it is not an office position!
As we are spread out over 6 acres this position spends 90% of their day out side or moving in-between buildings
Position Mission/Overview

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
Hiring and maintaining an effective small team appropriate for a small 30 room upscale resort.
Establishing preventative maintenance programs for all equipment, systems, guest rooms, public areas and the hotel grounds
Ensuring all work is conducted in a safe and efficient manner
Coordinating and implementing capital improvement projects
Oversees/develops Engineering Department(s) operating budget(s) according to established policy
Establish, maintain and manage dept. budgets and monthly forecasts
Manage outside contracts with support from hotel GM
Prioritize and distribute work orders and manage work flow within the department
Responsible and accountable for the upkeep, repair and renovation of a luxury property
Ensure property meets all regulatory requirements at all times
Reports any hazards or injuries in the department or hotel and takes immediate action to correct
Ensure record keeping is maintained to appropriate standards
Ensure proper key control system is in place and maintained
Deviations of hotel policies and procedures which come to the Engineering attention are reported to the General Manager.
Maintain good owners’ relations
Manage all capital projects to ensure projects are completed on time and at or under budget.
Ensures associates attend courses or seminars to remain current on proper techniques
Ensures all Life Safety systems are maintained according to the City of Coupeville, State of WA, NFPA, and the requirements of the property insurance company
Performs DAILY walk through/visual inspections of all property assets to determine condition, establish maintenance priorities and highlight areas where need for improvement exists
Creates 100% guest satisfaction by providing Yes I Can! genuine hospitality and by exceeding guest expectations
Gives personal attention, takes personal responsibility and uses teamwork when providing guest service
Listens, apologizes with empathy, finds a solution and follows through when resolving guest problems
Manages and leads the properties preventative maintenance program

Proactive and organized and able to self manage
Properly uniformed at all times, remembering that he/she is in view of our guests
Works neat and respectfully (quiet, clean) when our guests are present

The education, specialized training, required licenses or certifications and/or years of directly related experience required to enter this job:
• Minimum three-five years’ experience in the facilities management of related properties or
other comparable business (hospital/property management) preferably in the Hotel or Commercial office environment.
• Any licenses or permits required by law for specific job functions
• Preferred: Systems Maintenance Administrator (S.M.A.) Certificate, Certified Engineering Operations Executive (C.E.O.E.) or equivalent
• LOSS (large onsite septic system) knowledge is helpful
