Chapel Manager

Description

Luxury | History | Cornwall

When constructed in 1779, Bodmin Jail was an innovative milestone in prison design with its individual cells and sanitation. Now a four-star luxury hotel, The Bodmin Jail Hotel provides guests with a haven of style and comfort, set within its breath-taking historic surroundings. Located in the heart of Cornwall, this truly unique hotel is now ready for new stories, cherished memories and unlimited possibilities. It’s an iconic building and we are building a brilliant team to help shape and deliver the best experience in Cornwall.  The day-time tavern and night-time bistro-style restaurant, combined with the adjacent Bodmin Jail Museum, offer the chance of courtyard dining to soak up all the heritage and intrigue of this amazing property.

Chapel Restaurant Manager

We are looking for a passionate person, to take the helm at our special signature destination restaurant, The Chapel.  The building is historic; and the vaulted ceilings and inspired displays create a fitting ambiance for the food, rivalling the best in Cornwall and beyond.  It offers our guests the chance to experience something truly memorable with our authentic focus on seasonally appropriate ingredients, locally sourced produce all delivered with sustainability and ethics as pre-requisite.

To be successful you will need to have a calm, collaborative and deliberate approach, seeing the real benefits of taking a hands on-approach with coaching and mentoring.  You will want to enthusiastically share your knowledge and love for great quality food, wine and service with your team around you, seeing their success as your success.   This will be coupled with an abundance of positivity to build strong working partnerships with our managers across the business.  This is a challenging role, but the opportunities are plentiful and as a result, as well as being able to work independently, you will need to be solutions focused, seeing every challenge as an opportunity and be relentless in achieving the standards and quality expected.

This position holds full P&L accountability and responsibility for the success of the department.  This means that you will be expected to own and drive the sales conversions, marketing requirements and budget achievement while also be prudent with labour costs, purchasing and GP delivery.

If you are resilient, enthusiastic and dedicated, with a flair for delivering exceptional service, then we want to hear from you!  It’s important that you share our core values, of being ‘creative in approach’, ‘loyal with our relationships’ and ‘memorable in our delivery’ while have a great sense of care for our guests and team, guiding and supporting them with inspirational leadership, even on the busiest of days.  Our business relies in the enablement of and trust in our team.  A collaborative working environment prevails and across the hotel, where we all share in learning and success and find happiness in supporting our wider hotel family to deliver exceptionally.

Our backbone of attitudes and behaviours that create excellence are:

  • A high level of integrity and care
  • Passionate about attention to detail
  • ‘Eyes in the back of your head’ – very energetic and observant
  • Resilient
  • To be always kind and considerate to your team members and guests
  • Confidence to speak out when needed
  • To be robust in your approach to feedback and change
  • Bring your whole self to work and be proud of who you are
  • Remain calm under pressure [particularly important in this role!]
  • Be collaborative and encourage empowerment and enablement
  • Professional, ethical and honest always

The key qualifications we need or prefer:

  • Exceptional guest facing management experience
  • Good written and verbal English
  • PC and EPOS literate
  • Experience of working within high quality dining
  • Demonstrable employer loyalty
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring (preferred)
