Job Details

Role: Handyman  

Reporting to: General Managers and Executive Chefs

As a restaurant maintenance/handyman, your duties are to provide technical, and facilities support for a restaurant. Your responsibilities include performing building repair, troubleshooting problems with kitchen equipment, making adjustments to HVAC systems, and repairing other equipment, such as ice or soda machines. You make daily inspections of the facility and respond to issues whenever customers or employees bring them to your attention. You also work with the restaurant’s general manager to make orders for replacement parts or equipment.

Job Scope

  • Inspect and identify equipment or machines in need of repair.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.
  • Light electrical (repairing or replacing fixtures, switches, and outlets).
  • Light plumbing (replacing valves, faucets, and drains, clearing clogged drains).
  • Minor appliance repairs (stoves, refrigerators, ice machines, etc.).
  • Perform routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Clean and assist with the upkeep of the facilities.
  • Order supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Basic HVAC work as needed.
  • Complete maintenance work orders in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and general construction repair.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Physically capable and available to work including weekends, public holidays, and evenings.

Working conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat from the stoves and burners.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
