Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants is seeking an experienced employee relations professional to join their Human Resources team as DIRECTOR OF EMPLOYEE RELATIONS to investigate and resolve all types of employment-related matters and develop and implement related policies, procedures and training. 

  • 4+ years of employee relations experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry preferred 
  • Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus

The Director of Employee Relations leads, coaches and counsels the resolution of employee relations matters as an advocate and resource for partners, management teams and employees at all levels to support an engaging and productive work environment while fostering LEYE’s Culture of Caring, supporting operational and business goals, and proactively reducing risk through ethical compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.


Essential Functions

  • Lead, coach and counsel the resolution of employee relations matters as an advocate and resource for partners, management teams and employees at all levels to support an engaging and productive work environment while fostering LEYE’s Culture of Caring, supporting operational and business goals, and proactively reducing risk through ethical compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Timely resolve a wide variety of employee relations matters by providing highly accessible, expert coaching and consultative support (both proactive and responsive) to employees and leaders at all levels and in multiple business units; consult with in-house and outside legal counsel as necessary
  • Independently conduct thorough, impartial investigations of employee relations matters of all types (policy and practice violations and inquiries, performance management concerns, exit strategies, involuntary separations, workplace accommodations, leave of absence matters, discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims, etc.) and recommend appropriate courses of action to partners and management teams; appropriately document reports, investigations and recommended outcomes
  • Collaborate with HR, operations and legal teams and partners to identify employee relations trends and challenges, assess areas of Company risk, identify root causes, and develop proactive long-term solutions
  • Investigate, respond and take action on attorney letters, agency charges and litigation relating to Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Family Medical Leave Act and other similar federal and state laws (including drafting position statements and responses to attorney letters) as well as unemployment claims and hearings
  • Lead the creation, refinement and communication of employee relations resources, policies, procedures and training content to respond to strategic needs; ensure that business leaders and HR teams are appropriately informed and trained; collaborate and consult on non-HR policies
  • Lead, conduct and analyze the results of regular employee feedback sessions and surveys and develop recommendations and action plans in response
  • Build strong and effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels to share information, leverage resources and jointly design results-based solutions that balance business, employee and legal needs; motivate stakeholders to help implement and support change; develop strategies for responding to resistance to change
  • Effectively translate and apply cultural goals, employee relations strategies and existing policies and practices to individual situations; take a broad problem-solving view by identifying critical factors in a particular situation and considering the consequences and broader impact of alternate courses of action before recommending solutions
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and enforce compliance with applicable laws and regulations in all geographic markets, including the development and maintenance of effective coaching and corrective action resources
  • Periodically visit business units in all geographic markets to conduct investigations, build in-person relationships, obtain and respond to employee feedback, gauge employee engagement levels, coach management teams and provide employee relations support
  • Maintain availability to work a variety of days and times, including weekends and overnight travel (to conduct investigations, participate in employee feedback sessions, attend meetings and build relationships), as needed
  • Maintain proficiency and safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools, equipment, software and platforms
  • Effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
  • Multitask calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment
  • Work in a confined, crowded space of variable light, noise and temperature levels
  • Move and lift files or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds
