RESPONSIBLE TO:                Bar/Lounge Manager, Assistant Bar/Lounge Manager, Bar supervisor 

GENERAL PURPOSE: 

The role of the Barback is to support the bar team and maintain the upkeep of Bar/Lounge area. Working between the bar, cellar, and stockroom, you will contribute to a successful service.

MAIN DUTIES: 

  • Ensures a professional support to the staff in your team. 

  • Adheres to company standards of service quality, preparation, and presentation. 

  • Maintains back of house areas including stockrooms and cellars, making sure they are kept clean and tidy at all times.

  • Ensure Bar/Lounge area is clean and tidy: Collecting glasses, wiping surfaces, sweeping.

  • Ensure stock is rotated and stored correctly, reporting any damage and waste.

  • Complete all task/cleaning sheets that are required for each shift.

  • Confer closely with bar staff, maintaining good relationships with all staff.

  • Able to use own initiative to prioritize tasks throughout the shift.

  • Ensures readiness and makes priorities in case of last minute changes to reservations. 

  • Adheres to all health, sanitation and food safety rules and regulations. 

  •  Ensures that all potential and real hazards are reported and reduced immediately. 

  •  Ensures that employees work in a safe manner that does not harm or injure self or others. 

  • Anticipates possible and probable hazards and conditions and either corrects them or takes action to prevent them from happening. 

  • Keeps the highest standards of personal hygiene, dress, appropriate uniform, appearance, and conduct. 

  •  Sets up for service by ensuring everything is set up for forecasted covers, special functions and all reservations. 

  • To carry out any other duties as directed by Management, Director and Head Office. 

  • To study and memorize NZR Group guidelines and Employee handbook. 

  • To ensure that your service in the venue is the standard that the NZR Group has set. 

  • To comply with licensing laws. 

  • To work collectively within a team, supporting other members and assisting management. 


ACCOUNTABILITY: 

  • Actively participate in assisting to achieve departmental goals and objectives and carry out assigned work by Managers and Supervisors. 

  • Actively engage in your own personal development to benefit the business and improve your personal skills – probationary period reviews, annual appraisals, attending training and development courses. 

  • Actively participate in weekly/monthly meetings that you are required to attend. 

  • Actively participate in addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

 

GENERAL DUTIES: 

  • Maintains the venue, materials and company property clean, tidy and in good shape; reports defective materials and equipment to management. 

  • Attend any meeting or training session as required by Management. 

  • Maintains a safe and hygienic work environment. 

  • Is conversant and complies with: 

  1. The company fire and health and safety procedures 

  2. The company security procedures 

  3. The property facilities 

  4. Licensing regulations 

  5. Operation standards and departmental procedures 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: 

  • Walk and stand. 

  • Bend forward. 

  • Kneel down. 

  • Reach and grasp. 

  • Push and pull objects. 

  • Lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, sometimes over shoulder. 

  • Repetitive bending and lifting of items. 

  • Repetitive arm movements. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, PERSONAL SKILLS & PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • 1 year restaurant/bar experience. 

  • Excellent command of English language (Written and spoken). 

  • Ability to communicate with customers and peers with a friendly and positive attitude. 

  • Self-motivated, continuously seeking to succeed and progress in career within the company. 

  • Extremely flexible and committed. 

  • Lively, enthusiastic and confident. 

  • Ability to handle difficult situations successfully. 

  • Good organizational skills.
