Location: San Francisco, CA

Pay: $25 per hour plus tips

Chotto Matte is an acclaimed Japanese Peruvian restaurant located in the vibrant heart of San Francisco. Our establishment is not just a place to dine; it's a cultural experience where guests savor tantalizing tastes and groove to energizing beats from our resident DJs.

Role Overview:

As a Maitre D within the Reception Department, you will be vital in enhancing the overall dining experience and ensuring every guest feels welcome, valued, and well-attended throughout their visit. As the first point of contact for guests, the Maitre D is responsible for setting the tone of the experience from the moment guests walk through the door. You will oversee the Host Team, manage reservations, accommodate special requests, and address any issues to ensure a seamless and enjoyable dining experience. By maintaining high service standards and fostering positive interactions, you will help build guest loyalty and support the Chotto Matte's reputation for excellence. This role reports directly to Restaurant Managers, Assistant General Manager, and General Manager. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome guests warmly as they arrive, creating a positive first impression and setting the tone for their dining experience.

  • Oversee reservations, ensuring accurate booking entries, optimal seating arrangements, and efficient guest flow throughout the restaurant.

  • Lead and guide the Host Team, ensuring smooth operations and that guests are seated promptly and according to their preferences.

  • Ensure all guests’ needs, including special requests, are anticipated and addressed to ensure a seamless and enjoyable dining experience.

  • Handle guest inquiries, concerns, or complaints in a professional and timely manner, working to resolve issues to the guest's satisfaction.

  • Engage with guests throughout their visit to ensure satisfaction, promote a friendly and inviting atmosphere, and gather feedback on their experience.

  • Act as a liaison between guests and the restaurant team, ensuring smooth communication between front-of-house and back-of-house staff.

  • Uphold Chotto Matte’s high standards of hospitality, cleanliness, and professionalism, ensuring that the restaurant environment is always welcoming and organized.

  • Manage wait times effectively, keeping guests informed and offering solutions or alternatives when necessary.

  • Assist in coordinating special events, group bookings, or VIP reservations to ensure flawless service for all guests.

  • Assist in training new hosts, ensuring they understand their role and maintain the high standards of service expected at Chotto Matte.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move with agility, stand for extended periods, and bend as necessary.

  • Carry light items such as menus, reservation books, or small guest items up to 15 lbs throughout shift. 

  • Ability to operate equipment, such as reservation systems, phones, and other front-of-house technology.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a busy, noisy environment with guests and the restaurant team.

  • Ability to read reservations, monitor guest arrivals, and coordinate seating arrangements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years as a Maitre D' or in a similar role.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • A naturally friendly and positive demeanor coupled with solid communication skills and excellent customer service skills

  • Self-motivated with a dedication to personal and professional growth.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. 

  • Familiarity with reservation systems (e.g., OpenTable, SevenRooms, etc ) and the ability to manage guest booking efficiently. 

  • Ability to think quickly and resolve guest concerns or issues calmly and professionally.
