DEAN & DELUCA, the icon of the American epicurean experience, seeks a Full-Time Kitchen Manager for our NEW luxury fast casual restaurant opening the beginning of 2019, in the Meatpacking District!
Dean & DeLuca’s newest concept stands for the experience of enjoying food the way it was intended: at the height of freshness and with an absolute dedication to the craft of bringing together quality ingredients in an environment that reflects your lifestyle. Taking a chef-driven approach, Dean & DeLuca will redefine “fast casual” offering guests a new way to enjoy quality cooking, all baked and made fresh to order throughout the day.
From the moment a guest walks in the door and is welcomed with a view of a clean, modern space to an array of fine foods, to the custom-blended coffee with state-of-the-art espresso technology, homemade sodas and a hospitable team, they will know they are somewhere special.
Mission:
We are looking for enthusiastic team members with a passion for food & beverage, who want to experience and learn the art of making fine coffee and gourmet items and grow with a cutting-edge hospitality team.
Key Responsibilities:
o Customer-Service: The kitchen manager might have to interact with customers. Being friendly and courteous regularly will help keep guests coming back.
o Attention to Detail: The kitchen manager will have to keep their eyes on a lot of elements: food standards, costs, food & staff safety, etc.
o Leadership: The kitchen manager must be leaders in the back of house, rallying their team during heavy shifts, resolving conflicts and getting the job done.
o Management Skills: The kitchen manager not only deals with food, they also will have to monitor costs, pricing, creating work schedules, hiring and more.
o Organizational Skills: Keeping work schedules, shipments, cleaning schedules, kitchen & sanitation maintenance and more is crucial to the job.
o Problem-Solving Skills: Dealing with employee conflict, irate customers and wrong stock orders is part of a kitchen managers job. Being able to come up with a solution quickly is a needed skill.
o Speaking Skills: Kitchen managers need to accurately and easily communicate standards and cooking methods to staff, give orders and speak with customers clearly.
o Stamina: Kitchen managers can expect long days around hot cooking elements, much of it on their feet.
o Ability to show an excellent work ethic and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Skills & Requirements:
o Able to meet the schedule and attendance requirements of the store.
o Must have 1+ years in kitchen management experience in high volume restaurants.
o Culinary school background a plus.
o NYC DOH Food Protection Certified.
o Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
o Must be able to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
o Must be able to work opening and closing shifts as needed.
o Ability to read and write in the English language.
o Ability to speak and understand Spanish a plus.
o Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
o Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
o Finger/hand dexterity to operate kitchen machinery, knives, etc.
o Ability to withstand changes in temperature, occasional smoke, steam and heat and work in a confined area.
o Must possess hearing, visual and sensory abilities to observe and detect emergency situations; also to distinguish product, taste, texture, temperature, presentation and preparation.
o Remain current and compliant with the correct HR practices and policies.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet frequent short timeline goals and deadlines with a sense of urgency.
