Experimental Cocktail Club Chinatown is the first London venue from Experimental Group (Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, Henrietta Hotel, Cowley Manor, and STEREO). Established in 2011 in the heart of Chinatown, the Experimental Cocktail Club is a two-floors speakeasy bar. 

Job: Assistant General Manager

Location: Experimental Cocktail Club Chinatown

We are looking for an Assistant General Manager to join our dynamic team and challenge them!

You will be responsible for various operational matters and support the General Manager in his daily tasks. Together, you will lead and coordinate the bar's activities with a particular focus on customer and team satisfaction. In the absence of the General Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the bar, decision making and the application of group standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Bar Operations & Drinks Offer:

  • Ensure the smooth running of the bar.
  • Prepare and serve high-quality cocktails, all while adhering to our principle of aiming to provide the best drinking experience without a hint of pretension.
  • Ensure consistent, high quality beverages are served to customers.
  • Participate to the creation of the cocktail’s menu, along with the General Manager. Change the menu at least once per season.
  • Ensure menus are up-to-date and correct.
  • In cooperation with the General Manager, order alcohol, fruits, etc.
  • In cooperation with the General Manager, do the inventory of: Alcohols & Spirits, Softs, Glassware, Bartending materials (shakers, strainers, etc), Bartending accessories (napkins, straws, etc),.

Team Management:

  • In cooperation with the Human Resources department and the General Manager, participate in the recruitment and onboarding of the bar team (from the reception of the CV to the interview process to the hiring process).
  • Introduces the Experimental group, its vision, values and mission to new recruits.

In cooperation with the General Manager:

  • Train Bartenders and Barbacks.
  • Manage the schedule of the bar team. Ensure the bar is fully staffed, particularly during peak times.
  • Manage and report staff complaints of the bar team to the General Manager.
  • Create a positive work environment for staff, ensuring a high employee engagement and optimising employee retention.
  • Encourage bar team members career development.
  • Ensures all legal requirements are adhered to (i.e. Wage and Hour/Breaks, Health and Safety, etc.).
  • Record number of hours worked for each member of the team bar, track absences, lateness, request for days off, holidays and sick days.
  • Regularly verify and record that the opening and closing procedures are followed along.

Physical Aspect of the Bar - Maintenance & Repair:

  • Oversee the cleanliness of staff and the bar area and pay attention to possible health hazards and regulation violations.
  • Apply all Food and Beverage Regulations.
  • Report every maintenance action and repairs needed to the General Manager.

Guest Relation:

In cooperation with the General Manager:

  • Deal with customer feedback and provide adequate solutions to customer complaints.
  • Create a welcoming environment for customers, assess their needs and make recommendations.
  • Be the main contact to the Booking Agent. Organise regular meetings to optimise her schedule and number of hours worked.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Experience in a similar role within a cocktail bar.
  • Have excellent spirits & classic cocktails knowledge.
  • Attention to details and customer needs.
  • Social, engaging and motivated.
  • Flexibility to respond quickly and positively to a range of work situations.
  • Be well spoken with excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge as well as abilities in other languages would be beneficial.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
