As an Assistant Manager, you will be the contact point for teams, customers and trading partners, so your communication skills should be excellent.  You will manage the day-to-day activities of the venue operations, be able to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration and serve as the Site Manager in their absence.

Ultimately, you should lead by setting a good example and engage the team to achieve goals. You will be passionate about our values and our core messages of coMMunity and sustainability and will have a deep-rooted love for delicious, good-quality food and ingredients.

Our coMMitment to you:

  • A competitive salary package - we are committed to helping our employees attain a decent standard of living and are a London Living Wage accredited employer
  • 20% discount across all sites with over 50 food and drinks traders
  • 33 days holiday per year (pro-rated) including bank holidays
  • A Nest pension scheme after 3 months
  • Up to 10 days paid company sick pay on probation completion
  • 1 day of paid leave for volunteering activity per calendar year
  • The chance to make a difference and work somewhere that really cares

What we expect from you:

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines for self and team when required.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including late evenings, weekends, and national holidays, when needed.
  • An understanding of the food, restaurant and entertainment sectors is essential
  • Strong commitment towards, and good grounding in, food sustainability.

Knowledge, Education & Experience- what are we looking for?

  • Educated to a minimum of A levels or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good standard of English.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, P&L reporting, planning and coaching is desirable
  • Health & safety certificate, First aid certificate, Alcohol licence desirable but not essential

Who are we, and what do we stand for?

It all began with a pilot project during the 2015 World Expo in Milan—we regenerated a 150,000 sq.ft. disused railway station to develop the very first Mercato Metropolitano. Our purpose? To create an Italian market experience connecting people with independent Italian food producers and craftspeople. Through careful planning, we retained the site’s original appearance, revitalising the neighbourhood and nurturing the local community’s affection for a special part of their urban history. Over a four-month period, we saw well over two million visitors and this convinced us to take our concept to other cities. We opened our first site in Elephant & Castle in London in 2016. Since then, we've opened a further two sites and continue to bring together natural, unadulterated food, quality products, artisan producers and, most importantly, the local community. During the recent pandemic, we contributed 26k free meals to support the community through growing food insecurity.
