Description

We are looking for someone with a love and excitement for wine and a desire to share that excitement with our distinguished guests and your peers. Nerai is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced sommelier with a passion for learning, service, and hospitality.

The Sommelier is responsible for assisting our dining guests in their wine and beverage selection as another means to complement and support a cohesive dining experience alongside the house captains, backwaiters, bartenders, and house management.

This position is for one who embodies, inspires, & elevates service with great communication skills, a strong work ethic, a commitment to excellence, and understands the importance of teamwork. Strong abilities to execute and multi-task while on the floor with poise, grace and composure is a must!

Nerai is sophisticated Greek dining in the heart of Midtown. Situated in a historic four-story townhouse, Nerai offers a lively bar with beautifully decorated dining and event rooms. Elegantly presented seafood is the focus of the dishes with extraordinary cocktails stripped down to their simple essence. Our polished service team pays attention to each individual guest to make their experience outstanding as they sit inside a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC.


Qualifications Include:
• Minimum 2 years of New York City fine dining restaurant experience in a Sommelier / Beverage Manager position
• Extensive and proper knowledge of making cocktails, as well as proper food & wine service a must.
• Ability to learn and master Touch Bistro, the point-of-sale (POS) computer system
• Actively practice food safety procedures
• Passion for creating memorable moments of hospitality for our guests
• Able to take direction and complete tasks promptly
• Effective use of time, organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Strong willingness to learn and self-improve in all aspects of wine, food, and service knowledge
• Pleasant, positive, and team-oriented demeanor
• The ability to stay positive and calm under pressure
• Clear and polished oral communication skills to build trusting relationships with peers and guests
• Ability to work well within a team in a very fast-paced environment
• Ability to engage guests in an articulate fashion and build relationships
• Impeccable grooming habits, as defined by management and dress code, while working gracefully in a suit
• Be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages
• Culinary and/or Wine Degree/Certification(s)
• Hospitality Degree/Certification
