Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Prep Cook assists line cooks in the preparation and service of menu items and performs a number of kitchen
activities including general cleaning duties and storing food and non-food supplies.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Chef de Cuisine

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist cooks in preparation and service of various foods in assigned work situations including pantry items,
salads, soups, sauces, and with pre-preparation of ingredients for entrees.
Prep cooks do much of the preparation for the dishes that are served. This includes chopping vegetables, breaking down, cutting or grinding meat, weighing and mixing ingredients, washing and preparing vegetables, storing food, and more.
Maintain assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition.
Handle food in a manner that is consistent with local health department guidelines.
Follow proper food handling techniques and coordinates the use of time, material and equipment to avoid
waste and unnecessary expense.
Maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene.
Comply with department’s dress code.
Follow safety regulations, reporting injuries or any unsafe conditions and work practices to the supervisor.
Attend in-service training and education sessions as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must have a minimum year experience as a prep cook
Must possess a positive attitude and work well with other team members
Must have passion for food and cooking
Must possess good knife skills
Must be able to work unsupervised
Must be able to communicate clearly with line cooks, and Chef
Be able to reach, bend, stoop, twist and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours or longer).
Be willing to follow direction and ask questions for clarification if needed.
