The Prep Cook assists line cooks in the preparation and service of menu items and performs a number of kitchen activities including general cleaning duties and storing food and non-food supplies.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
-Assist cooks in preparation and service of various foods in assigned work situations including pantry items, salads, soups, sauces, and with pre-preparation of ingredients for entrees.
-Prep cooks do much of the preparation for the dishes that are served. This includes chopping vegetables, breaking down, cutting or grinding meat, weighing and mixing ingredients, washing and preparing vegetables, storing food, and more.
-Maintain assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition.
-Handle food in a manner that is consistent with local health department guidelines.
-Follow proper food handling techniques and coordinates the use of time, material and equipment to avoid waste and unnecessary expense.
-Maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene.
-Comply with department’s dress code.
-Follow safety regulations, reporting injuries or any unsafe conditions and work practices to the supervisor.
-Attend in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
-Minimum of 1 year experience as a prep cook
-Possess a positive attitude and work well with other team members
-Good knife skills
-Must be able to communicate clearly with line cooks, and Chef
-Able to reach, bend, stoop, twist and frequently lift up to 5, pounds
-Work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours or longer)
-Follow direction and ask questions for clarification if needed
