The Role:
The Digital team is developing the next version of the CAVA digital ordering platform with an emphasis on customer experience and cutting-edge design. CAVA is a frenetic and bustling restaurant that’s all about the food, so the technology must enable a better experience, while at the same time, does not get in the way. We are tasked with setting the standard in restaurant technology innovation and enjoy the challenge that brings. We have a creative and open team that uses modern tools and agile practices to run a lean development life cycle.

What You’ll Do:
The Director of Engineering leads the Digital team in technical design, planning and implementation of our digital products for both CAVA and Zoës Kitchen.

• Define the overall vision, strategy, roadmap, and resource plans for the Digital team & products
• Lead the application architecture of our digital ordering applications and integrations
• Ensure the performance, stability and scalability of our digital ordering platform
• Ensure operational readiness of business applications
• Partner with cross-functional team members in Customer Experience, Cyber Security, Store Operations, Marketing, and Infrastructure
• Continuously improve SDLC through Agile best practices, deployment pipeline efficiencies, and team development
• Work with business leads to manage demand, intake and the prioritization process, overseeing resource allocation that both optimizes for success and develops the team
• Create and track team KPIs such as sprint velocity, cycle times, application availability, and production escapes.
• Cultivate the Digital team members through coaching, goal setting and performance reviews.
• Manage vendor relationships, holding them accountable to valuable and timely deliverables.
• Comfortable leading a team through all aspects of the SDLC
• A passion for software development with expertise in principals and patterns, a willingness to get your hands on the keyboard if/when necessary, with an ability to review, guide and constructively coach team members to success
• Value oriented and highly flexible to keep focus on what matters most
• Able to work independently, be self-motivated, and be highly engaged
• Able to communicate and present effectively, both technically and generally
• Able to show strong analytical problem solving and decision-making skills

The Qualifications:
• 5+ years leading a software development team
• Experience implementing customer facing and/or large-scale applications
• Experience scaling applications for high performance at peak loads
• Experience implementing CI/CD and deployment pipelines
• Experience developing with UI and Backend technologies
• Experience using source code repositories to review and manage code changes
• Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
• CI/CD Tools - Circle CI or similar
• Code Repo Tools - Git or similar
• Language experience - JavaScript, Erlang, Java
• Framework experience - React and/or React Native, Elixir, Spring
• Database experience - Postgres
• Cloud platform experience - AWS tools Elastic Bean Stalk, API Gateway, etc.
