Sous Chef

Description
Think light crispy artisan pizza cooked in our amazing wood-fired oven, warming one-pots of comfort food and pints of beer crafted at our Grandfathers Brewery! Welcome to Pizza Pots & Pints.

We are on a mission to grow. Our mad-cap journey started in 2015 when we unwrapped the Salisbury Arms in Cambridge and welcomed in the locals – having been named as “Best Pub in Cambridge”, from humble beginnings we have gained the confidence to share our unique hospitality.

The Holly Bush situated on Osney Island is currently closed for an exciting remodel and will open next month as our 2nd Pizza, Pots & Pints in Oxford.

Your role as Sous Chef:

In this role you will report directly to the Head Chef. As second-in-command, you have a large amount of responsibility and will quickly need to amass an in-depth familiarity with the entire kitchen operation so that you can fill in for the Head Chef when needed and assist them in each aspect of managing a well-performing kitchen. You must possess the ability to quickly and authoritatively delegate job tasks to your team and be able to draw upon your own considerable experience to effectively coach and mentor your junior team.

Your main duties as Sous Chef will involve:

- Planning and directing food preparation and service; above all, setting an exceptional standard of example with your work ethic and desire
- Effectively supervising and managing other kitchen staff
- Responsibly seizing control of situations or problems that may arise at any moment and calmly applying the relevant action to address any issue
- Work closely with your head chef to effectively control stock and food GP, and identify opportunities to maximise profitability
- Where necessary, managing underperforming staff members as well as providing incentives for staff members to go above and beyond the expectations of their particular chef roles.
- Outside of the kitchen, take responsibility for, or effectively delegate the kitchen due diligence procedures including; HACCP; COSHH; food wastage and where necessary, staff rotas.

At the start of your employment you will be required to complete some online training modules that will better prepare you for the role and give you a recognised certificate in each area; which include Health and Safety and Food Hygiene amongst others. You will also receive a clear role induction as well as on the job training from experienced and passionate people that will help get the best out of you!
What we are looking for:

- Minimum 12 months experience as Sous or Chef with management experience
- Passion for fresh food
- Good initiative to increase efficiency and remain busy during working hours
- Proven management capabilities and effectively trained junior team members
- High food hygiene standards and high attention to due diligence procedures
- A committed and passionate attitude to work, always looking to improve with a desire to progress
- Consistent high working standards including attention to detail, organisation, reliability, and pro-activity

Career Progression

The next job role up from this position is Head Chef, the most important role in the kitchen which requires responsibility and leadership of standout quality.

In return we will offer you:

• Competitive salary + live in if required
• 28 days holiday
• Pension
• Food & Retail discounts
• Fun culture surrounded by a supportive team
• Uniform

We are the cheeky little brothers and sisters of Wells & Co. who have yet to grow up! Despite all the fun we have, we also take your personal development as seriously as we take our beer and food.

We think it’s time to wave goodbye to your previous jobs and say hello to your new career. Welcome to the Pizza, Pots & Pints family – we’re confident it’s where you belong!

If the above sounds like you we’d love to hear from you.
