Description
The Mercer Kitchen is actively seeking for a Sommelier. MUST HAVE OPEN AVILABILTY.

Duties and Responsibilities (these are not all-inclusive):
•Work the floor during service with an emphasis on beverage sales. Up-sell at all possible opportunities
•Maintain a high-quality level of service regarding body language, eye contact and proper verbiage and seek to positively enhance the guest experience throughout the evening.
•Maintain thorough knowledge of all wine, saké, beer, spirits, specialty cocktails, teas and sodas and all non-alcoholic beverages.
•Assist Manager in ordering all bar products-liquor, beer, wine and consumables to par, as required
•Assist in preparing for and performing weekly inventory of all beverage department products, as required
•Assist in researching and conducting comprehensive beverage training for FOH staff, working in conjunction with Corporate Beverage Coordinator
•Assist in maintaining beverage encyclopedia
•Oversee maintenance/cleanliness of all decanters, wine stations and all storage areas pertaining to beverage
•Additional duties may be added as deemed necessary by Management

Mandatory Requirements:
•Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
•Willing to work a flexible schedule and holidays
•Be a self-motivator and motivator of others
•Work in a safe, prudent and organized manner
•Have an in-depth knowledge of food and preparation
•Be able to relate to all levels of guests and management
•Have a minimum of 2 years experience in similar position
•Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
•Have excellent communication and organization skills
•Maintain a clean and healthy personal hygiene and grooming

Located at the Mercer hotel, Mercer Kitchen brings a chic, sophisticated vibe to the heart of SoHo. Exposed brick walls, long banquettes, and candlelit sconces give the place a timelessly stylish, sexy, fun ambiance. Mercer Kitchen was one of the first restaurants in New York City to have a communal table, which remains popular to this day. Chef Jean Georges' American menu features market-driven, seasonal ingredients prepared in a simple yet elegant style, with favorites like the Tuna Spring Roll, Steamed Shrimp Salad, wood-fired pizzas, and classic Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. There is an open kitchen, where guests can sit back and watch the show. A casual café upstairs serves breakfast and lunch, and transforms into an exciting bar/lounge at night.
