Description
General Ledger Accountant

As the general ledger accountant you will have responsibility for month end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and accuracy of financial statements, as well as other aspects of financial accounting. The right candidate will have the opportunity to mould this role, and to grow and develop whilst supporting changing business needs.

Key Tasks

  • Preparation of month end journals including accruals and prepayments followed by balance sheet reconciliations to support the wider finance team.
  • Monthly P&L analysis to budget, identifying and justifying material variances
  • Utilities accounting, analysis and process improvements.
  • Support fixed asset accounting and reconciliations.
  • Support stock reconciliation and variance analysis.
  • Periodic VAT returns and reconciliations.
  • Involvement in year-end audit requests and liaising with auditors. Proactively collating information through the year to ease pressures at year end.
  • Identifying and promoting best practice and communicating where process improvements can be made, both within the role and across the wider team.
  • Any other tasks deemed necessary as the role and business develops.

Experience
  • Part qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) keen to qualify and gain experience.
  • Experience of Fixed Asset Accounting and General Ledger accounting.
  • Experience of working to deadlines and a month end timetable.
  • Have a good understanding of controls needed in an accounts department; able to question existing controls, and have experiences to draw from to be able to identify areas for improvement and propose solutions.
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience of streamlining and automating manual excel documents.

  • Self-motivated and self-sufficient, not be afraid to get stuck in.
  • Committed to unpicking the past and improving processes for the future.
  • Naturally inquisitive and not shy to question processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time pressure with high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with remote learning and working.
  • Strong organisational skills, flexible and able to adapt quickly to change, if not suggest the changes that are needed.
  • Confident and professional manner with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to all levels on all platforms.
  • A willingness to learn from, and share knowledge and experience with others.
