The Newt in Somerset Staff Chef
The Newt in Somerset has several catering outlets, the biggest being the Garden Café. Our Central production kitchen is a key part of the business, preparing food for all areas of the business including our staff canteen.
All food is prepared on site with ingredients fresh from our gardens and locally. Quality and seasonality of ingredients are two very important values we endorse.
Position Summary
The staff food chef works as a key member of our Central Production Kitchen team. This kitchen handles large amounts of fresh product from here on the estate and from local suppliers. The work is a mix of producing freshly made staff meals for up to 200 staff members everyday and working on the development and packaging on new products for our retail shops and restaurants.
Working within a small team on a day to day basis but part of a much larger estate wide team, you will work closely with the CPU head chef and the estate head chef.
A can do attitude and adaptability are key to this role. There is a clear career progression through the estates culinary landscape for the right candidate. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic team creating great food and products in a special environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- To prepare hot staff meals, meat and vegitarian and a dessert.
- To minimise wastage and support recycling of food and disposable items
- To maintain high standards of cleanliness are achieved in the Kitchen areas and equipment
- To ensure Health and Safety and Food Safety legislation are adhered to; this will involve appropriate training.
- To ensure that you are correctly dressed, adhere to high personal hygiene standards.
Skills and Experience
A formal culinary qualification or a minimum of three years experience in a similar role.
