Position Summary:

The Bartender shares responsibility for customer happiness, quality of service and the smooth operation of the bar service with the Bar Manager/Lead Bartender. Responsible for coordinating the bar service with dining and kitchen services to provide a total experience that meets or exceeds guest expectations. Processes bar orders to ensure that all items are prepared properly and on a timely basis. Responsible for providing service to all bar patrons. Maintains a clean and organized bar area, completes daily and weekly cleaning and daily restocking and ensures that all health and safety regulations are adhered to. Assists Bar Manager or Lead Bartender with the maintenance of records of stock levels and financial transactions. Follows liquor laws and regulations and assists with insuring wait staff follows liquor laws and regulations.

Major Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Greets and informs guests of specials, makes suggestions and answers questions regarding food, beverages and service. Can assess guest’s preferences and make sensible recommendations.
• Communicates with guests using clear and enthusiastic words, tone and body language at al times. Makes guests feel appreciated through their actions.
• Is present at the bar and attentive. Offers their assistance before the guest must ask for it.
• Learns the names and personally recognizes our regulars. Recalls their favorite drinks.
• Updates draft lists and boards for customers.
• Demonstrates a complete understanding of menu and daily menu items and explains same to customers accurately. Passing the menu test with a 75% or better and accurately explains the menu to customers.
• Passes the bartender test with a 75% or better. Can accurately answer beverage questions and has a working knowledge of beer, wine, liquor and common drink recipes.
• Maintains a professional appearance at all times, clean and well-groomed, as per standards.
• Takes food and beverage orders from bar guests and relays orders to kitchen staff as appropriate.
• Properly processes guests’ orders to ensure all items are prepared properly and on a timely basis. Communicates with hosts, deli, trons and managers to ensure guest satisfaction with the food and service.
• Prepares all bar drinks according to recipe, accurately measuring all alcoholic beverages at all times.
• Serves food and beverage items promptly. Upsells drink and appetizer items to customers.
• Observes patrons to ensure that guests are satisfied with the food and service, to respond to any additional requests, and to determine when the meal has been completed.
• Follows all liquor laws and regulations and assists with ensuring wait staff follows liquor laws and regulations.
• Checks and validates proper ID for any guest appearing 35 years of age or younger.
• Refuses service to any patron, of questionable age, who is unable to produce proper identification, notifies the manager immediately and documents the incident in detail.
• Refuses service to any patron who appears visibly intoxicated, notifies the manager immediately and documents the incident in detail.
• Provides approved food items and/or non-alcoholic beverage, complimentary if necessary, to visibly intoxicated patrons, notifies the manager immediately and documents the incident in detail.
• Arranges transportation for visibly intoxicated patrons if needed, notifies the manager immediately and documents the incident in detail.

Observes the following customer details in order to be careful not to over serve:

• Customer gender
• Customer size
• Rate of consumption of alcoholic drinks
• Strength and number of alcoholic drinks
• Consumption of food
• Drug use
• Presents accurate bill and accepts payment.
• Assists bar manager/ lead bartender with the maintenance of records of stock levels and financial transactions.
• Maintains all time guidelines for service as established by management.
• Stocks and restocks work stations, removing soiled dishes and silverware from bar and tables when the guest is finished with food and drink items in a timely manner. Cleans and resets bar and tables after guests leave.
• Keeps service areas and stations stocked, neat, clean and organized.
• Informs Bar Manager/Lead Bartender and Manager on Duty of inventory supply needs daily, and as needed.
• Maintains appropriate portion control and merchandising standards when serving all items.
• Maintains proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards while serving and performing clean-up according to pre-determined procedures.
• Cleans up spills in bar and service area immediately.
• May assist trons and host as appropriate and only if it does not take away from bar service.
• Assists with trash removal and recycling from restaurant and replaces with new bags.
• Responsible for performing daily and weekly cleaning.
• Assists with tasks throughout the restaurant as needed and requested by the Manager on Duty.
• Abides by all policies and procedures established by Isaac’s.
