Reports to: Chief Development Officer

WHAT WE ARE HUNGRY FOR

 

The Vice President of Construction will be responsible for the construction processes for opening all new Paris Baguette cafés, Corporate and Franchise. This person will ensure all elements of the approved Paris Baguette design concepts are adhered to during construction phases, which will include managing architectural and construction activities for each project. They will also be responsible for leading and executing refresh and remodel projects for existing locations.


The Vice President of Construction will manage and build a team to effectively support our new store opening (NSO) plan and the café refresh and remodel program. The Vice President will ensure all work related to the above is completed in a timely fashion and is within budget. They are responsible for building strong vendor relationships, which is focused on cost efficiencies and ability to scale as we grow. This person is also consistently assessing people, processes and systems to ensure we are continually evolving as we grow.

The ideal candidate will help to achieve our vision of re-establishing the neighborhood bakery café as the heart of the community around the world.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Builds and executes a construction development strategy enabling us to scale to 1000 locations by 2030.
  • Develops and manages to a budget for each café opening or refresh/remodel project.
  • Develops and ensures we adhere to a firm timeline for each construction project.
  • Oversees scheduling, bid negotiations and consultant relationships.
  • Maintains, adjusts and updates project plans, as needed. Consolidates, communicates and manages all issues and risks affecting projects. Communicates project status to project participants and stakeholders accurately and on time.
  • Manages entire construction phase of the development process. Prepares possession of tenant spaces according to company guidelines. Monitors general contractor and vendor performance during construction build-out phase. Maintains established construction schedules to allow store to open on time. Oversees ordering and tracking of materials and equipment. Visits job regularly to perform due diligence and monitor quality. Addresses concerns and maintains consistent follow-up on any outstanding issues.
  • Implements company’s business policies, programs, specifications and procedures related to planning, design and construction of Paris Baguette locations.
  • Manages the permitting and approval phase of the development process and ensures proper approvals have been received prior to initiated possession or construction phase.
  • Oversees and maintains relationships with external professionals and consultants. Oversees contractor and vendor performance during construction phase through site visits and report review. Maintains relationships with jurisdictions and planning commissions to ensure seamless store openings.
  • Oversees bidding process and contract negotiations. Ensures company's contract policies are followed. Maintains and monitors active General Contractor (GC) pool for adequate number, quality of workmanship and service level.
  • Owns all real estate initiatives, including management of franchise strategy for profitable unit level and data-driven real estate road map to deliver on-brand expansion.
  • Develops relationships with landlords, developers, and third-party vendors. Effectively conducts lease administration negotiations for renewal and closings; ensure that leases are renews on a timely manner with optimum profitability.
  • Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization. Supports development efforts by working closely with other departments to determine more effective processes and tools.
  • Drives site approvals to ensure the Paris Baguette Real Estate pipeline is robust and positioned to support our growth targets.
  • Supports Store Development and Operations goals by participating and contributing in planning and strategy meetings for the market.
  • Works with other key departments to improve processes and tools in support of capital renovations, capital initiative execution, and maintenance of existing stores.
  • Perform assigned tasks as determined by the Chief Development Officer.


WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE


  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction, or related field
  • 10-15 years Construction experience in Restaurant/Hospitality Industry
  • Experience in the Architectural field including commercial and retail related activities
  • Progressive leadership experience in a fast paced and rapidly growing retail environment.
  • Must have a proven background in multi-unit restaurant operations leading 100+ locations.
  • Experience with a fast growing Franchise company preferred.
  • A strong understanding of real estate matters and relevant site analytics to identify profitable locations
  • Experience managing a real estate portfolio and pipeline; knowledge and experience in US growth preferred
  • Experience with high velocity new store openings, required.
  • Flexible, adaptive, upbeat, open and visible management style, with a successful record of accomplishment of managing senior operations leaders across a large geographically decentralized portfolio.
