Description
Santa Monica Proper Hotel is looking for an experienced Executive Steward. A seamless merger of historic retrofit and new construction, the 271-room Santa Monica Proper Hotel will feature interior design by international style icon Kelly Wearstler, multiple dining options by local area culinary stars, a rooftop lounge and swimming pool, 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and almost 7,000 square feet of ground floor retail.

The Executive Steward is responsible for managing the stewarding department to enforce the highest possible cleanliness and hygiene standards in all food processing facilities, as well as the operating equipment. Main responsibilities include dish room operations, night cleaning, back area cleaning and maintaining the department’s equipment.

Job Overview
- Manage the duties of all Stewarding department colleagues and the department’s facilities, operation and costs
- Supervise the sanitation, cleanliness and hygiene as well as the quality level of product and services
- Assist in the movement and storage of banquet operational equipment
- Assist in the stock take of equipment and other items as required
- Work with all departments to ensure items that are required for service are available when needed
- Supervise colleague’s ability to follow loss prevention policies to prevent accidents
- Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards
- Prepare monthly reports on shortages in china, silverware and equipment and requisition replacements as required, while following budget guidelines
- Assist Chefs and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed

Qualifications
- 2 or more years’ experience as Executive Steward preferred
- Knowledge of hotel operations or high-end restaurant required
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Education
High School degree required.
