Barista

Santa Monica Proper is looking for an experienced Barista. A seamless merger of historic retrofit and new construction, the 271-room Santa Monica Proper Hotel will feature interior design by international style icon Kelly Wearstler, multiple dining options by local area culinary stars, a rooftop lounge and swimming pool, 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and almost 7,000 square feet of ground floor retail.

The Barista is responsible for promoting coffee consumption by educating guests, selling, preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks, along with pastries and cookies as well as other items on the menu.

Job Overview
• Prepare and sell coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks
• Generate revenues by attracting new customers; defining new and expanded services and products.
• Maintain inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and cookies for coffee bar
• Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
• Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading coffee, retail trade, and food service publications and maintaining personal networks


Qualifications
• 1+ years of experience as a Barista in a café, restaurant or hotel
• Must possess a positive attitude
• Must be service-oriented and a team player
• Knowledge of the practices within the Food & Beverage/Hospitality profession
• Flexible schedule - Willing and able to work shift duties that may include evenings, weekends and holidays
