Associate General Counsel

The Role:
Corporate and commercial support for an emerging growth restaurant chain including negotiate contractual matters in core business areas; provide practical advice regarding legal and business risks and opportunities, and assist in guiding future growth initiatives.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Negotiate and draft business contracts, including supply chain, procurement, marketing, operations, facilities, IT, HR, and technology agreements. Maintain contracts database.
  • Maintain state registrations in all states in which the Company does business.
  • Assist in drafting and negotiating commercial real estate leases, estoppels, SNDAs, and build agreements, and supervise lease administrative support partner.
  • Manage portfolio of trademarks.
  • Supervise licensing and permitting process. Research and handle extraordinary licensing or permitting issues.
  • Assist litigation counsel in managing litigation matters, including preparing document productions and responding to discovery requests.
  • Monitor state and local regulations affecting the restaurant industry and advise regarding compliance efforts, including, but not limited to, food packaging, menu, and COVID-related regulations.

The Qualifications:

  • Education, Training, and Work Experience
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from ABA accredited law school, superior academic credentials (> 3.3 GPA and transcript required).
  • Member in good standing of at least one State Bar.
  • Preferred 5+ years of corporate legal experience including prior large corporate law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Experience in advising retail and/or restaurant clients preferred.
  • Experience in reviewing and drafting contracts required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to all levels of management, staff, outside counsel, and business partners.
  • Demonstrated understanding of business risks and opportunities in negotiation of contracts.
  • Approaches obstacles proactively and looks for creative solutions to further business needs.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and a strong dedication to providing prompt, excellent client service to internal and external partners.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
  • Analytical ability and strong attention to detail.
  • Upholds and furthers Cava’s culture and values.
  • Some public company, Board support and related governance experience is helpful.

  • Physical ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office equipment

  • Ability to see, hear, and speak regularly
  • Ability to squat, kneel, bend and twist occasionally
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
