Situated in the heart of Canary Wharf, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, you will find The Pearson Room, a casual, yet sophisticated restaurant and cocktail experience serving 150-200 covers an eclectic and seasonal menu using fresh and wholesome ingredients. Having a strong reputation built over the previous 8 years and a prime location overlooking Canada Square, this is a great opportunity for an established General Manager to evolve the current proposition, establish their own team and be accountable for restaurant operations, with the wider support of the Third Space Group team including Marketing, HR and Natural Fitness Food (Our established nutrition business).

Your mission will be to inspire and motivate your team to deliver a world class experience whilst proactively driving forward the overall performance of The Pearson Room, maximising revenue opportunities, controlling costs and providing a safe and healthy environment. You’ll be the expert in your field and you will represent the business as part of the senior management team and contribute to driving group initiatives forward. You’ll develop The Pearson Room brand and drive awareness in the local and wider market to build brand knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Fully accountable for the operations and finances in TPR, with overall responsibility for maximising revenue opportunities, controlling costs, managing the team, providing a safe and healthy environment and operating effectively within budget and meeting business KPIs.
  • Establish restaurant business plan, budgets, menus etc and ensures all actions are in place for effective implementation. Reviews evolution as required to ensure the business remains competitive within the market place.
  • Work with marketing to develop TPR brand and actively promote the restaurant services in the public relations/marketing arena. Takes ultimate accountability for attraction of customers utilising contacts with Third Space membership, local businesses and community and all other perceived opportunities.
  • Working with the Head Chef evolve the menu at regular intervals with seasonal produce change, whilst keeping aligned with brand values.
  • Lead and manage the TPR team to provide exceptional customer service at every contact, ensuring best in class customer experience.
  • Recruit, develop and retain the best talent in the industry, ensuring any Employee Relations concerns are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Effectively manage team performance, setting targets, giving feedback, developing and supporting team members to ensure the Third Space values, operating procedures and ways of working are embedded.
  • Communicate effectively and provide continuous feedback through team meetings, one to ones and on the spot coaching, seek feedback to ensure style is adapted where required to suit all.  
  • Understand the bigger picture and relevant commercial requirements and contribute to group initiatives when requested.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by tracking emerging trends within the restaurant industry; for example, reviewing professional publications, maintain and broadening personal networks, benchmarking best in class practices and competitors.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures, including health and safety, are maintained to an excellent level at all times.

 

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Previous experience of operating as a General Manager within a restaurant environment operating up to 200+ covers across a flexible working pattern.
  • Experience of managing and motivating a large team (c. 30+) to provide outstanding customer service
  • Previous budgetary management of at least £1M plus turnover achieving all of the industry wide COS metrics across wet and dry goods.
  • Experience of overall responsibility for kitchen, bar and services teams as well as events and marketing.
  • A natural leader who strives for best in class
  • Customer centric approach
  • Strong commercial skills and financial acumen
  • Positive and pragmatic approach with a can-do attitude
  • Problem solving with ability to prioritise and multi task
  • Hands on Manager with strong attention to detail
  • Strong team leader with a desire to attract, develop and retain the best
  • Able to work flexibly (unsociable hours and weekends). The Pearson Room previously traded Monday-Friday although this could be reviewed to adapt to changing market trends.
