JOB SUMMARY

The Portsmouth Marriott Hotel is looking for an experienced, commercially focused Sales & Events Manger to lead the planning and delivery of complex, high-profile events.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the complete event journey, from sales handover and pre-event planning through on-site delivery, post-event review and return to sales. You will coordinate event documentation, customers, Sales and hotel departments to ensure consistently high standards of service and seamless execution.

We are looking for a confident event professional who combines meticulous organisation with strong commercial judgement, outstanding customer care and the ability to bring teams together. The Impact You'll Make

As Sales & Events Manger, you will be the event planner’s primary contact on property following turnover from Sales. You will collaborate closely with the Sales Leader, who will be your line manager, to ensure a joined-up approach across the sales and event journey. You will oversee complex events throughout the pre-event, event and post-event phases, ensuring every detail is communicated and delivered to a consistently high standard.

You will identify opportunities to maximise revenue through thoughtful up-selling and enhancements, resolve operational challenges.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Executing Event Operations, Sales Strategy, Profitability and Customer Service

·       Prepare all event documentation and coordinate with Sales, hotel departments and customers to deliver seamless, high-quality events

·       Lead pre-event and post-event meetings for assigned groups, communicating requirements, feedback and agreed actions

·       Oversee the customer experience from file turnover through the post-event phase and handover back to Sales

·       Identify operational challenges and work with customers and hotel teams to develop effective alternatives and solutions

·       Manage customer budgets, group room blocks and meeting space to meet client needs and maximise revenue

·       Forecast sleeping-room, catering and audio-visual revenue and manage event profitability

·       Up-sell products, services and enhancements throughout the event process

·       Participate in customer site inspections and support the sales process when required

·       Act as the liaison between the field sales representative and customer throughout the pre-event, event and post-event phases

·       Review billing and payments with clients and ensure event records are accurate and complete

·       Maintain a visible presence during events, greet customers and hand over event details clearly to the Event Operations team

·       Obtain and act on guest feedback, resolve concerns and follow up with customers after their event

·       Set a positive example for guest relations, recognise team contributions and uphold all standards, policies and procedures

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

·       High school diploma or GED and at least two years’ experience in event management or a related professional area; or a two-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration or a related subject, with no previous work experience required

·       Experience managing complex events and coordinating multiple stakeholders, priorities and deadlines

·       Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue management and up-selling

·       Confident verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with customers, Sales and operational teams

·       A highly organised, solutions-focused approach and the ability to remain composed when plans change or challenges arise

·       A commitment to exceptional customer service, attention to detail and continuous improvement

·       The ability to provide visible leadership, recognise team contributions and act on behalf of the department director when required
