Role: Assistant General Manager — Adam & Eve, Homerton
Employment: Full-time

About us
Dating back to the mid-18th century, Adam & Eve is a well-loved Homerton pub with indoor seating, a beer garden and a large roof terrace (heaters and coverings for winter). We serve great food (resident kitchen: Krapow), host regular gigs, events and private hires, and pride ourselves on a warm, inclusive atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.

Overview
As Assistant General Manager, you’ll support the General Manager in running a busy, event‑led pub. You’ll lead FOH shifts, coach and develop staff, manage cash and stock procedures, run rotas and help shape the venue’s identity and events programme.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead FOH shifts and take operational ownership in the GM’s absence
  • Supervise and coach Duty Managers and front‑of‑house teams
  • Manage cashing up, till reconciliation and basic stock control
  • Create rotas, support recruitment, onboarding and training
  • Drive service standards, guest recovery and day‑to‑day operations
  • Support live‑music nights, events and promotions to grow trade
  • Ensure licensing, health & safety and food‑hygiene compliance

Person specification — essential

  • Management or supervisory experience in pubs, bars or live‑music venues
  • Genuine passion for live music and high‑quality bar service
  • Hands‑on, proactive leader with energy and strong people skills
  • Commercial awareness: comfortable with sales drivers, labour control and cost‑conscious decisions
  • Calm under pressure and able to make sound decisions on busy shifts
  • Right to work in the UK; available for evenings, weekends and event shifts

Desirable

  • Experience with live‑music programming or event nights
  • Personal licence, Level 2 Food Safety or formal hospitality qualifications
  • Familiarity with EPOS systems

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance-related bonus opportunities
  • Training, apprenticeship support and paid learning time with clear progression to General Manager
  • Free guest list to selected events and festivals; staff food on shift
  • CODE app staff membership discounts and Cycle to Work scheme
  • 24/7 wellbeing support via Able Futures
  • Flexible shift patterns tailored to match events, matchdays and trade demands

We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, race, religion or belief, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, or any other protected characteristic. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and will consider reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
