Acquired by Another Place in 2023, and a five-minute walk from our Another Place, The Lake hotel, The Brackenrigg Inn combines hearty Cumbrian food and views over Ullswater and the fells. Here you’ll find plenty of contemporary comforts with the welcoming warmth of a locals’ hearth.

Our Kitchen Porter role:

We’re looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our team at The Brackenrigg Inn.

As part of a team that values connection, flexibility, variety, and challenge, you’ll play an important role in maintaining a welcoming and efficient kitchen environment. From washing and sanitising dishes to supporting ingredient preparation, you’ll be an essential part of our kitchen operations.

With care, dedication, and attention to detail, you’ll help keep our kitchen clean and organised, ready to support our creativity with memorable moments and even better food. You’ll also assist with deliveries and a variety of kitchen tasks, gaining valuable insight into the pace and teamwork involved in a busy working kitchen.

As our Kitchen Porter you’ll be:

  • Ensuring all kitchen equipment, utensils, and areas are cleaned thoroughly and maintained to a high standard, following food safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Keeping floors, work surfaces, and kitchen areas clean, tidy, and safe throughout service to support an efficient and well-organised working environment.
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and personal hygiene to the standard required by the hotel and by law.
  • Ensuring full refuse bags are removed and replaced promptly, and that full swing bins are removed and replaced immediately, as well as clearing any spillages.
  • Cleaning the floor area daily and at the Chef’s discretion.
  • Sweeping and cleaning the corridors and passageways through the kitchen.
  • Washing crockery, cutlery and ensuring that work surfaces are clean and tidy.
  • Cleaning all pots in the pot wash area, and maintaining cleanliness of the area.
  • Helping with any preparation needed for daily service.
  • Assisting the smooth running of all aspects of the kitchen and back of house areas.
  • Maintaining an organised, clean and safe workplace for all.
  • Correctly recording all waste in the appropriate method (no member of staff is to remove any item without first checking with a supervisor and completing the kitchen wastage book).
  • Carrying out other duties as required.

The skills you’ll be sharing with us:

  • A flexible attitude to working hours and variable shift patterns
  • An interest and enthusiasm for the food industry
  • Guest service orientated mindset
  • High attention to detail
  • Team motivated
  • Calm under extreme pressure
  • Responsible, accountable, and reliable
  • Passionate about our team and our greater environment
  • Experience in a similar role (desirable)

What we can offer in return:

  • A relaxed, professional place to work in a beautiful location – right on the shores of Ullswater
  • Free paddleboarding hire and equipment use
  • Team social events throughout the year
  • Discounts for you and your friends and family to eat at our restaurants, with 50% off on duty
  • Team discounts on treatments in Swim Club
  • Special rates for you and your friends and family to stay at Another Place hotels, SeaSpace and Watergate Bay Hotel
  • Free on-site parking
  • Team bus service running daily between Penrith station and our hotel and pub
  • Excellent career prospects in an ever-expanding organisation
  • Paid volunteering days (You Days) after 12 months of service, plus your birthday off
  • Team assistance scheme – a dedicated helpline for support and advice on topics from mental health to managing your finances

Joining our team means being part of a community that values excellence and kindness in everything we do. Our commitment to our team is reflected in our exceptional working environment - one that promotes a work-life balance, professional development, and plenty of opportunities for growth. You’ll also have paddleboarding, hill walking, and unlimited natural beauty right on your doorstep.
