Position Overview
The Head Barista is responsible for leading the café’s coffee program, ensuring the highest quality beverages and customer service, and mentoring the barista team. This role combines technical expertise in coffee preparation with leadership, training, and operational responsibilities to create an outstanding café experience.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee & Beverage Quality

  • Prepare and serve coffee and espresso-based drinks to the highest standard.
  • Maintain consistency in recipes, flavour profiles, and presentation.
  • Oversee calibration of espresso machines and grinders daily.
  • Monitor inventory of coffee beans, syrups, milk, and related supplies.
  • Prepare batches for juices, smoothies and all necessary ingredients following the par levels.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead, mentor, and train baristas to improve skills and maintain quality.
  • Ensure staff follow proper hygiene, safety, and service standards.
  • Foster a positive, motivated, and customer-focused team culture.
  • Assist in scheduling and delegating barista shifts.

Customer Service

  • Provide an excellent customer experience by engaging with guests and resolving complaints.
  • Educate customers about coffee origins, brewing methods, and menu items.
  • Ensure service is efficient, friendly, and consistent.

Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar and equipment.
  • Conduct regular equipment checks and coordinate maintenance.
  • Monitor daily café operations to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Assist in tracking sales, reducing waste, and meeting performance goals.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Barista; previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of specialty coffee, brewing methods, and latte art.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Food Safety and/or Barista training certifications (preferred)

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced café environment.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
