A bit about what you will do...  

  • Carry out practical horticultural tasks such as propagation (where and when feasible), planting, border cultivation, mowing, hedge-cutting, weeding, mulching, etc.
  •  Plan and implement workplans and projects to make best seasonal use of resources and budgets.
  •  Manage, supervise and delegate tasks to any gardener, apprentice or intern under your supervision so that horticultural and presentation standards are met.
  •  Resolve day-to-day challenges which may arise, seeking advice or approval from the Course Manager where necessary, and more widely to work in close, productive communication with him/her.
  •  Ordering plants, tools and garden-based materials within the budget provided and in keeping with company purchasing procedures through approved suppliers. • Input when requested into the annual garden project budgets.
  •  Upon request and direction, work with the wider greenkeeping team when required, for example during course maintenance periods.
  •  Likewise, to assist with arboricultural maintenance around the estate within the limits of your experience and training.
  •  Actively contribute to the preparation for special events, tournaments and the like.
  •  Maintain gardening/planting, machinery and H&S records to the standards conveyed by the Course Manager or senior management.
  •  Competent in the use and care for a wide range of machinery and equipment relevant to the position. Ensure the correct and safe use, maintenance and storage of tools and machinery under your supervision.    

More about you...  

  •  Previous experience of the seasonal maintenance of a range of horticultural settings.
  •  Experience of managing people, with the ability to lead, train and motivate.
  •  Good organisational and forward planning skills.
  •  Full, manual driving licence
  •  Able to identify common garden plants, pests and diseases and know their cure.
  •  Competent in the use and care for a wide range of machinery and equipment
  •  Understand current health and safety legislation • Good oral and written communication skills
  •  Good organisational skills and the proven ability to prioritise own work
  •  Excellent time keeping
