A bit about what you will do...  

The Chief Engineer in our luxurious hotel leads from the front and takes a proactive, hands-on approach, overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations, ensuring excellent standards are maintained throughout our luxurious hotel creating a welcoming and safe environment that consistently exceeds guests’ expectations. 

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance services. 
  • Prepare and monitor the annual departmental operating budget, with a focus on energy management, preventive maintenance and capital planning. 
  • Lead hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely completion within budget. 
  • Manage Health & Safety, including statutory compliance, risk assessment, permits to work and safe working practices. 
  • Address any guest concerns promptly, attentively and efficiently. 
  • Liaise closely with other hotel departments and wider management team to support the continual improvement of property maintenance standards. 
  • Maintain and order parts and supplies in a timely and efficient manner while minimising waste and supporting “green” initiatives. 
  • Act as property leader for the brand’s ‘Green Engage’ program. 
  • Coach, train, and support the team to provide consistently high standards while continually looking to improve. 
  • Perform Duty Manager shifts as required.

  • Strong leadership skills with proven experience to manage a team. 
  • Clear and influential communicator with the ability to interact across all levels. 
  • Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of budgeting and cost control. 
  • Proven experience to lead a green initiative for a large hotel. 
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs. 
  • Proven experience in managing, coaching, challenging and developing teams. 
  • Approachable and positive manner with a “can do” attitude. 
  • Ability to use initiative in challenging situations and under pressure. 
  • A smart and professional appearance. 
  • Proven track record in a similar position within a 5-star hotel. 
  • Recognised electrical or engineering qualification and specialised expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields. 
  • Excellent understanding of Health and Safety regulations and best practices. 
  • Strong knowledge of the operation, control and maintenance of building services plant and systems. 
  • Previous experience using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Excellent standard of English, both written and spoken.
  • Pool plant operator qualification preferred.
