We are currently recruiting for a Fishing Warden to join the team at Ashford Castle, Ireland’s first Forbes Five Star Hotel. This role offers a unique opportunity to deliver exceptional outdoor guest experiences, upholding the highest standards of service as set by Forbes Five Star and The Red Carnation Hotel Collection. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating memorable moments for our guests through expert guidance, warm hospitality, and a deep knowledge of the estate’s fishing and countryside offerings.

Key responsibilities of the Fishing Warden will include, but not limited to:

·         Patrol and manage the Cong River Fishery, ensuring compliance with all regulations and estate standards.

·         Schedule and oversee fishing sessions, beat rotations, and permit issuance, maintaining accurate logs and catch records.

·         Liaise with local anglers, fisheries authorities, and enforcement bodies to protect the fishery and prevent illegal activity.

·         Ensure safety, signage, and environmental conditions are maintained to a high standard.

·         Provide fly fishing lessons, demonstrations, and guided experiences to guests in line with Forbes Five Star service.

·         Deliver exceptional guest care, answering fishing-related queries and enhancing the visitor experience.

·         Communicate regularly with management on operations and any incidents.

·         Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

·         Uphold Ashford Castle policies, health & safety standards, and contribute to sustainability efforts.

·         Maintain a high level of professionalism, teamwork, and initiative always.


The ideal candidate for the Fishing Warden position should:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of Irish fisheries legislation and conservation best practices.
  • Previous experience within a similar fisheries role is preferable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with guests and colleagues alike.
  • High level of self-motivation, initiative, and reliability.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • A full, clean driving license.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in fishery management, enforcement, or a similar outdoor/environmental role.
  • Qualifications in fisheries, environmental science, conservation, or related fields.
  • First aid or water safety training.
