Situated in Downtown’s Second Street District, Austin Proper Hotel & Residences is the newest luxury lifestyle hotel in Austin, just steps from Lady Bird Lake, the legendary Austin City Limits music venue and nearby boutiques. With inspiring interiors by Kelly Wearstler and culinary offerings in collaboration with MML Hospitality, Austin Proper offers 238 rooms and suites, a dedicated spa and fitness center, and 9,500 square feet of meeting and event spaces, including a rooftop pool deck offering small-batch tequilas and majestic lake views. Anything less just wouldn’t be Proper. 

Job Overview

The Night Manager plays a crucial role in ensure the smooth and efficient overnight operation of the hotel. Reporting directly to the Director of Rooms, the Night Manager assists in overseeing the nightly activities to deliver exceptional guest experiences and uphold the hotel's high standards of service. You will be instrumental in maintaining the hotel's reputation for delivering exceptional guest experiences. Your leadership and attention to detail will contribute to the hotel's success in achieving high levels of guest satisfaction and revenue generation. 

 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist in maintaining the highest level of guest service and satisfaction.
  • Respond to guest inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional and empathetic manner, seeking swift resolutions.
  • Lead by example in providing outstanding service to guests, setting a standard for the team to follow.
  • Support the Front Office Management in the hiring, training, and ongoing development of front office personnel.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and regular performance feedback to team members.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and motivation among staff.
  • Oversee the smooth operation of the front desk, ensuring a seamless check-in and check-out process.
  • Monitor and maintain optimal staffing levels to meet guest demands while controlling costs.
  • Review daily occupancy reports and assign rooms, considering guest preferences and special requests.
  • Assist the concierge team in providing personalized services to guests, including arranging transportation, tours, and dining reservations.
  • Ensure adherence to hotel policies and procedures by hotel staff.
  • Maintain security procedures to safeguard guest information and hotel assets.
  • Oversee the proper functioning of front office systems, including the property management system (PMS) and reservation systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with the IT department for resolution.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalency, post high school education and degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years hotel supervisory experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and relationship skills 
  • Experience with training, financial management, and guest service.
  • Familiar and comfortable with interviewing candidates, handling colleague concerns and holding colleagues accountable. 
  • Effectively communicate with the management team, guests, and colleagues.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, writing, e-mail, or in person.
  • Identify the developmental needs of others and coach, mentor, or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly, correctly, and in a way that allows one to solve work-related issues.
  • Uses basic computer hardware and software.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
