Situated in Downtown’s Second Street District, Austin Proper Hotel & Residences is the newest luxury lifestyle hotel in Austin, just steps from Lady Bird Lake, the legendary Austin City Limits music venue and nearby boutiques. With inspiring interiors by Kelly Wearstler and culinary offerings in collaboration with MML Hospitality, Austin Proper offers 238 rooms and suites, a dedicated spa and fitness center, and 14,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a rooftop pool deck offering small-batch tequilas and majestic lake views. Anything less just wouldn’t be Proper.

As Managing Director, you will oversee all aspects of operations, ensuring the highest standards of excellence in service, guest satisfaction and financial performance. Your leadership will be instrumental in maintaining Austin Proper's reputation as a premier destination for travelers. Working closely with the Hotel General Manager, you will guide the team in delivering unforgettable experiences and fostering a culture of hospitality excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategic Vision

  • Provide strategic direction and vision for the hotel, aligning with the company's goals and values
  • Lead, inspire, and motivate a diverse team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and guest-centricity
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and guest satisfaction
Financial Performance

  • Drive revenue growth through effective sales and marketing strategies, revenue management and cost control measures
  • Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring performance and implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost optimization while maintaining the hotel's luxury standards
Guest Experience

  • Uphold Austin Proper's reputation for personalized service and attention to detail, ensuring exceptional guest experiences at every touchpoint
  • Monitor guest feedback and satisfaction metrics, implementing improvements to enhance overall guest satisfaction and loyalty
  • Oversee the implementation of service standards and training programs to ensure consistency and excellence in guest interactions
Property Management

  • Collaborate with the onsite Hotel General Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, including housekeeping, maintenance and front office functions
  • Ensure the property is well-maintained, safe and compliant with all regulations and standards
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers and partners to ensure the seamless operation of the hotel
Brand Representation

  • Serve as the face of the hotel, building relationships with guests, partners and the local community
  • Represent the hotel at industry events, conferences and networking opportunities to enhance brand visibility and reputation 
  • Act as an ambassador for the hotel's values, promoting a culture of inclusivity, sustainability and social responsibility
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration or related field (Master's degree preferred) but not required
  • Proven experience as a Hotel General Manager or similar leadership role in the luxury hospitality industry
  • Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial analysis and revenue management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving business growth and operational excellence
  • Passion for hospitality and commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences
  • Knowledge of industry trends, best practices and regulatory requirements
