Summary of role

The BF Unit Manager acts as the pivotal link between the Bagel Factory’s strategic vision and the customer experience.

The manager is responsible for the overall operational and financial success of their branch, acting as a true “business owner” who leads with energy, passion and accountability.

This role focuses on: inspiring and leading the team, delivering exceptional customer experiences in line with Bagel Factory’s W.O.W.S. pillars, serving high-quality bagels and drinks, driving strong commercial performance and maintaining brand excellence.

Reports to: BF Operations Manager, BF Regional Manger

Direct Reports: BF Assistant Manager, BF Team Leaders, BF Team Members.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

To ensure the highest quality of bagels, drinks, and overall store presentation.

To maintain strict compliance with food safety, health & safety standards, company policies, and statutory requirements.

To oversee cleanliness, shop setup and operational consistency across all shifts.

Store Operational Strategy

To communicate sales targets and objectives, as defined by the budget, to the team.

To develop staffing plans and production/ordering schedules aligned with business needs.

To accurately report store performance to the Operations Manager and discuss potential improvement actions.

To liaise with Head Office teams to manage routine and exceptional store operations.

Customer Experience

To deliver perfect experience for every customers

To maintain a welcoming and engaging store atmosphere.

To respond promptly and professionally to customer feedback or complaints.

Leadership & Team Development

To lead by example in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

To conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to support development.

To coach and mentor new Team Members and Team Leaders, fostering a positive, motivating, and high-performing team culture.

Financial Management

To take full accountability for the store’s Profit & Loss (P&L) up to EBITDA.

To monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and manage labour and food costs effectively.

Commercial Management

To maximize sales opportunities and identify strategies for revenue growth.

To analyse and know local competitors and pinpoint potential new customers.

To enhance customer engagement and strengthen loyalty.

People Management

To recruit, train and develop new BF Team Members and BF Team Leaders.

To manage staff performance.

To approves leave requests and ensure that staff timecards are complete for payroll.

Performance measures

v  Sales performance versus budget and Like-for-Like growth.

v  Store-level P&L performance up to EBTDA store.

v  Internal brand checklist outcomes

v  Health & Safety audit compliance.

v  Environmental Health Officer (EHO) inspection scores.

v  Mystery Shopper results.

v  Customer service standards and feedback.

v  Staff retention and team development.

 

Key skills 

v  Experience - Previous management experience in retail or hospitality.

v  Commercial Acumen - Ability to understand the main KPIs and translate insights into actionable plans.

v  Leadership - Hands-on style with the ability to motivate and inspire the team under pressure.

v  Communication - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

v  Organisation - Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

v  Problem Solving - Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
