About FirstGlass

FirstGlass is bringing a new way to discover Italian wine to London, in partnership with Badiani – the iconic Florentine gelato brand.

Following the success of our flagship wine experience in Florence, we have recently launched our first London location at Mercato Mayfair.

We are now looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing and sales-oriented person with a genuine passion for wine, hospitality and Italian culture to join our team full-time.

The position will be employed by Badiani, working primarily on the FirstGlass wine experience at Mercato Mayfair.

The Role

This is not a traditional sommelier position.

The role combines wine, hospitality and sales. You will welcome customers, introduce them to the FirstGlass experience, help them discover Italian wines based on their tastes and actively contribute to growing sales.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable approaching people, creating a connection and turning curiosity into a great wine experience – and a sale.

What you’ll do

• Welcome and engage with customers at Mercato Mayfair
• Introduce the FirstGlass concept and our Italian wines
• Help customers choose wines based on their preferences
• Conduct simple guided wine tastings
• Actively promote and sell wine tastings, individual wines and gift boxes
• Encourage customers to share their experience and leave reviews
• Contribute to achieving the location’s sales and customer-experience targets
• Maintain a friendly, energetic and premium customer experience
• Support the day-to-day running of the wine area
• Work closely with both the FirstGlass and Badiani teams

Who we’re looking for

• Italian speaker preferred, with good English
• Genuine passion for wine – formal wine qualifications are welcome but not essential
• Naturally confident approaching and talking to new people
• Strong commercial mindset and natural aptitude for sales
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Positive, reliable and proactive
• Comfortable working in a busy, international environment
• Previous experience in wine, hospitality, retail or sales is a plus

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who enjoys talking about wine, meeting people and turning great conversations into sales.

Compensation & Performance Bonus

We want to attract strong people and reward them when the whole team performs.

• £13.50–£16/hour, depending on experience
• 40 hours per week
• Team performance bonus of up to 3% of total FirstGlass sales at Mercato Mayfair
• Bonus linked to agreed monthly performance targets and KPIs, including revenue, wine tastings sold, gift boxes sold and customer reviews

The bonus is designed as a team incentive: we want everyone working together towards the overall success of the location rather than competing for individual sales.
