The Newt in Somerset 


The Newt in Somerset has ancient woodland, historic gardens and far reaching views. It is a unique destination with Hotel, Spa, Restaurants and much more.  Visitors can take a tour of the gardens, deer park and cyder press, dine in the Garden Café and visit our farm shop. Expecting to attract some 150,000 visitors per year, The Newt in Somerset is a vibrant and thriving attraction, animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops and education programmes.



Department Description


The Visitor Attraction has several catering outlets, the biggest being the Garden Café which is open 7 days a week from approximately 9.00am to 5.00pm depending on the seasons.  All food is prepared on site with ingredients fresh from our gardens and locally.  Quality and seasonality of ingredients are two very important values we endorse.  The bakery department provides baked and sweet products for the whole estate, supplying the hotel, garden café and other venues.



Position Summary


As Pastry Chef you’ll be responsible for the sweet products across the estate, from cakes, meringues, and tarts to afternoon tea selection. You should be able to create, develop and maintain high quality products across all departments using estate grown or locally sourced ingredients. Working as a key part of the bakery team you will be a driven individual that wants to expand our sweet production inline with the estate goals and work within our wider culinary team. Reporting into the bakery manager and estate head chef.


 

Key Responsibilities


  • To prepare, develop and maintain high quality products.
  • To ensure all products are delivered and packaged on time.
  • To ensure Health and Safety and Food Safety legislation are adhered to; this will involve appropriate training.
  • To ensure that you are correctly dressed, adhere to high personal hygiene standards.
  • To maintain the company’s vision and ethos.

 


 Skills and Experience


This is a great opportunity for an experienced pastry chef that can take the lead on sweet production and enjoys working alongside the bakery team. The role requires efficiency and flexibility as well as attention to detail.  You will be producing large numbers to supply all our restaurants and other outlets, so experience of large number high quality production is a benefit.
