Blackbird Central Production Unit

Description

Blackbird Bakery is a craft bakery rooted in South London. We bake everything with care — real ingredients, proper technique, and a genuine love for what we do. As we grow across our shops and central production unit, we're building a team that takes the same pride in quality behind the scenes as we do at the counter.

The Details

Location:  Central Production Unit, South London SE27 0JN

Hours:  40–45 hrs/week | Monday–Friday (occasional weekend cover may be required)

Shift:  06:00–15:00

Pay:  £14–16 per hour, depending on experience

Note:  Availability on the last working day of each month is required for monthly stock take

Benefits

•      Generous staff discount across all Blackbird Bakery products

•      Team meals — because great food should be shared

•      A growing business with real opportunities to develop your career

The Role

We're looking for a reliable and organised Goods Receiver to join our Central Production Unit. You'll be the first point of contact for all incoming deliveries — ensuring everything that comes through the door meets our standards, gets logged correctly, and reaches the right place at the right time. It's a hands-on, detail-focused role that sits at the heart of how we run our kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

•      Receive and inspect all deliveries, checking quantities, quality, and condition

•      Rotate stock and store goods correctly across ambient, chilled, and freezer areas

•      Conduct daily and weekly stock counts and monitor inventory levels

•      Prepare daily and weekly purchasing lists based on par stock, and place supplier orders using MarketMan

•      Record delivery notes, verify invoices, and chase credit notes where needed

•      Monitor and log fridge and freezer temperatures in line with food safety requirements

•      Manage the purchasing email inbox and respond to suppliers in a timely manner

•      Work closely with production and management to ensure all departments are fully stocked

What We're Looking For

•      Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

•      Comfortable with regular manual handling, including lifting items up to 25kg

•      Able to work in chilled and freezer environments as part of the daily routine

•      Competent with Excel and stock management software — experience with Marketman is a plus

•      A proactive, team-focused attitude and reliable work ethic

If you take pride in doing things properly and want to be part of a bakery that genuinely cares about its craft, we'd love to hear from you.
