Description
The Captain Whidbey has undergone an amazing transformation and re-opened in April.
The Captain Whidbey was recently featured in Sunset Magazine, Vogue and Conde Nast Traveler.

We are building a guest experience like no other resort in the PNW and the San Juan Islands area.

Located on the shores of Penn Cove on Whidbey Island, in the heart of Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve, Captain Whidbey has provided legendary island hospitality and dining since 1907. With 30 rooms, a new restaurant and bar concept, 6 beautiful acres and a dock for seaplanes, boats, and kayaks on Penn Cove, Captain Whidbey will become the coolest place to work on Whidbey.

Purpose of Position

Prepare and cook foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functions.


Position Mission/Overview

The line cook/prep cook position is responsible for supporting the entire food service operations, with preparation and cooking support. This position is responsible for supporting the Executive Chef in the creative development and quality assurance of the culinary operation. As a valued team member with The Q Hotel Group, we focus on exceeding our guest's​ expectations and believe that “the answer is YES and if it’s not yes it’s YES, and if it’s still not yes its YES”.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
 Support activities of cooks and chefs engaged in food preparation.
 Run the day-to- day operation of the station you may be assigned too in the kitchen.
 Assist in creating and preparing menus items and specials.
 Check and complete mise en place and pars and set-up the station.
 The ability to communicate with the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs regarding menu items, problem situations or shortages.
 Work closely with standard recipes and plate presentations in order to maintain standards of quality in production and presentation.
 The ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times to reflect the high standards of the restaurant and encourage staff to do the same.
 The ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by management and staff.
 Complete requisitions, obtain proper signatures.
 Utilize the computer system in retrieving orders.
 Maintain a good working relationship with other employees.
 Store items properly at the end of the shift.
 Ensure a clean, neat and organized work area.
 The ability to handle and report any accident immediately, no matter how minor.

 Coordinates multiple tasks and meets production and service time schedules.
 Demonstrates consistent professionalism in the execution of daily assignments. Required Position Skills
 Skillfully uses utensils and equipment needed for the position.
 Follows instructions and recipes as needed.
 Measures, portions or otherwise prepares beverages and food with great precision and efficiency.
 Accurately completes, waste logs, production sheets, etc.
 Communicates ingredients, preparation methods and promotions to guests as
appropriate.

Education/Vocational Experience

The education, specialized training, required licenses or certifications and/or years of directly related experience required to enter this job:
• High School diploma
• Culinary degree preferred but not required
• Previous experience in a line cook or prep cook position for 1-2 years, 3-4 with no degree
• Health Card/Food Handlers Card (or ability to obtain one)

• Must be available weekends and holidays
