Description

The Trainee Espresso Machine Technician will support the installation, servicing, and repair of commercial espresso machines and related coffee equipment. This entry-level role is designed for someone with a keen interest in the mechanics of coffee, looking to develop hands-on technical skills in a specialised field. Under the supervision of experienced technicians, the trainee will learn to diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure machines operate to the highest standards of performance and reliability.

The role involves both workshop-based and on-site work, often in cafes, restaurants, offices, and hospitality venues. It requires attention to detail, a customer-focused approach, and the ability to work safely and efficiently with tools and electrical components. Full training will be provided on espresso machine systems, water filtration, grinders, and common diagnostic and repair procedures.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation of espresso machines, grinders, and water filtration systems at customer sites, ensuring all equipment is set up to manufacturer specifications and caravan standards.
  • Support the servicing and maintenance of commercial espresso machines, including descaling, group head servicing, boiler inspection, pressure adjustments, and electrical safety checks.
  • Shadow our technician to gain familiarity with different espresso machine models and brands.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in espresso machines and related equipment.
  • Prepare machines for dispatch or installation, including bench testing, calibration, and quality checks in the workshop.
  • Perform repairs under supervision, including the replacement of parts such as valves, gaskets, solenoids, pumps, and heating elements.
  • Provide professional and concise communication when interacting with customers, representing the company in a positive manner at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training sessions and complete any required assessments or certifications.
  • Alternating weekends on call – weekend remuneration to be discussed.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with tools and machinery.5
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and safety principles (training provided).
  • Keen interest in coffee technology and espresso equipment.
  • Methodical and detail-oriented approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Good verbal communication skills and customer service mindset.
  • Willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, diagrams, and checklists.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to developing technical proficiency.
  • Flexibility to travel to different job sites and occasionally work outside normal hours, if required.

Entry Requirements:

  • No formal qualifications required, though a background or education in electrical, mechanical, or engineering disciplines is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a technical, maintenance, hospitality, or customer service role is beneficial but not essential.
  • Full, clean UK (or local equivalent) driving licence preferred or in progress.
