Job Title: Seasonal Wine Cellar Assistant
Department: Winery
Reports to: Winemaker
Status: Seasonal/Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Seasonal Cellar position will be responsible for handling and participation in general day to day operations of the winery. This includes but not limited to receiving, sanitation, racking, blending wines, and other winery related tasks. The Cellar must be able to work 5 – 6 days per week, through the Harvest season from approximately September through November.
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum 1 year of previous winery, brewery, or vineyard experience
• Must be proactive, organized and detail oriented
• Proven ability to work independently
• Must be fluently literate in English including ability to read, write & communicate
• Must possess communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to use a pallet jack to move loads up to 2000 lbs.
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Ability to climb ladders, and stairs
• Ability to work in wet, cold & damp conditions
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends as needed
• Must have proficient computer and technological skills including email, Microsoft Excel, & Word
• Forklift experience is a plus
Overview of Responsibilities
• Operate a variety of equipment including pumps, filters, pallet jackets, punch down devices, etc.
• Perform regular sanitation of pumps, hoses, tanks & barrels as per guidelines
• Fruit receiving, sorting & processing
• General cellar work including racking & blending wines
• Fermentation management including punch downs, pump overs & pressing
• Barrel sanitation, filling & overall cooperage care
• Pay special attention to nutritional and yeast additions
• Perform routine cleaning
• Additional tasks and projects as per business need
