Job Title: Assistant Winemaker
Reports to: Local Winemaker and General Manager
Job Type: Hourly Full Time

Job Summary
Alongside the local Winemaker, this position will coordinate & review all activities pertaining to winery operations. This position is responsible for maintaining quality of bulk inventory and manage day-to-day functions of barrel warehouse for all brands, maintain records for all internal wine movements. This role is also responsible for covering winemaking duties involved in our blending and bottling operations, conduct educational tours / tastings as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Must have minimum 3 years of “hands-on” wine production experience and/or equivalent relevant experience
• Supervisory & winery experience is required
• Must have intermediate word & excel skills
• Understanding of costing & inventory preferred
• Professional and effective communication skills
• Superior organization skills and attention to detail
• Flexible and able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team
• Ability to perform physical requirements of position including standing for extended periods of time, kneeling, stooping, using stairs, able to lift, carry, push, pull weights of at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays as needed, Must be able to work 6 days per week during harvest season and some evening to lead wine classes or blending events.

Job Functions & Responsibilities
Winery & Equipment Maintenance:
• Ensure all winemaking equipment is in working condition and set up yearly maintenance for pump, bottling and crush equipment.
• Oversee cellar staff to make sure all tanks, fitting, pump are sanitized on weekly basis.
• In charge of barrel topping and maintenance of empty barrel (monthly SO2)
• When the winemaker is not on site: ensure glycol system (both cooling and heating) are in good working condition, scheduled maintenance company’s visit in charge of maintaining these glycols in proper condition.
• In charge of setting up annual maintenance of forklift
• Ensure all barrels are stacked and stored properly in the winery and storage building using CW forklift

Winemaking:
• Coordinate tasting with head winemaker to establish monthly routine tasting, wine blend trial, oak trial test, fining trial.
• Communicate to head winemaker any concern about wine presenting a fault (VA, Brett….).
• In Charge of maceration at Chicago winery during harvest, under the supervision of winemaker.
• Responsible for creating and implementing weekly & Monthly production calendar
•. Perform lab analysis (VA, PH, Malic Acid, Free & Total SO2, Ethanol)
• Ensure all full barrels are topped on proper schedule and all empty barrels are maintained correctly (VA check, monthly sulfite, water soaking before filling)
• Responsible for “kegging” wine for Randolph and Riverwalk locations to meet high volume demand.

Wine tracking & Inventory:
Alongside the winemaker, this role is responsible for the following:
• Track/ enter all wine & case good movement using Wine Maker Data Base software (WMDB) on daily/ weekly basis .
• Monthly preparation of MA state taxes report to be review by winemaker.
• Oversee monthly inventory of barrels, tanks, kegs and case good and generate reports.
• Generate “TTB” federal report of CWC’s wines, prepare “audit trial” from WMDB to be review by head winemaker.

Cola application:
• Handle all Cola application concerning CW Chicago wines in keg or bottle, alongside Winemaker.
• Work closely with CW Graphic designer and CW sale director to gather final artwork for wine sold via private labeling and to integrate this artwork into printing schedule to the printing company, alongside Winemaker.

Blending event, wine classes:
• Lead potential blending events sold via the private event department.
• Lead wine classes, alongside Winemaker

CW Tap system, retail tap account and offsite tap set up:
• In charge of overseeing cellar’s staff to insure all CW tap lines (including Barrel on wheel) are cleaned on bi-weekly basis.
• Ensure proper signing of contract for CW tap system and Barrel on wheel “BOW” system.
• Support handling & maintenance of RETAIL Tap account
• Oversee set up and break down of large offsite tap event
• Alongside winemaker, oversee and maintain CW Riverwalk tap system, including cleaning and repairs.
• Adhere to CW safety practices pertaining to CW tap system and tri-clover keg management.


Staff management & training:
• Oversee winery cellar help and harvest intern
• Create and implement weekly and monthly routine maintenance of winery equipment and tap system.
• Involvement in the selection of “harvest” intern.
• On a monthly basis, train staff cellar staff to perform a new task to improve skills of this person
• Train new floor staff in charge of wine tour about the particularities and specifics of CW winemaking.

In addition, this role must support other reasonably assigned duties, tasks, projects, as per business need.
