The Newt in Somerset


The Newt in Somerset has ancient woodland, historic gardens and far reaching views. It is a unique destination with Hotel, Spa, Restaurants and much more.  Visitors can take a tour of the gardens, deer park and cyder press, dine in the Garden Café and visit our farm shop. Expecting to attract some 150,000 visitors per year, The Newt in Somerset is a vibrant and thriving attraction, animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops and education programmes.



Department Description


Based at our central production kitchen, we are responsible for the production of newt products to be distributed both internally and via our online store mobile newt.  We are looking for a chef to join our team, producing a vast array of items from stocks, fresh juices and sauces through to our newly developing ready to eat meals.  We also provide the catering offering for all internal events including seafood barbecues and late-night picnics.  This role would be ideally suited to someone who has already worked in a similar role, with experience of volume catering and production.  The kitchen here at the CPU is the hub of the newt and is expanding to accommodate demand.

  • Maintaining high standards of work as directed by kitchen lead
  • Being flexible, creative, driven
  • Being customer led and focused , ensuring our guests enjoy amazing experiences
  • Ensuring the smooth running of the kitchen and high standards of food safety
  • Supporting senior kitchen team members, training junior kitchen team members
  • Fully engaging in the estate and all its offering



Skills and Experience


  • Previous experience in a similar operation desirable 
  • Ability to work under pressure in the public eye
  • Confidence in talking to others
  • Good attention to detail
  • Great time management and self-motivated
  • Passion for food, beverage and luxury hospitality
