Financial Controller
Full-Time (Hybrid Working)
Earlsfield / Kingston-Upon-Thames

Reporting to the Financial Director, this key role leads the operational finance function and has responsibility for the efficient and smooth running of all day to day activities and the delivery of accurate, timely management information and reporting.  In addition to overseeing the operational finance function, the Financial control will have responsibility for ensuring budgetary control, implementing relevant change and making recommendations to encourage continuous improvement of financial performance.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Day to day management of operational finance team
  • Lead, coach and mentor the team and ensure finance objectives are delivered
  • Oversee and ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts, board and bank reporting (including balance sheet and cash flow).
  • Ensure key reconciliations are completed on a monthly basis (sales, margin, stock, balance sheet)
  • Manage sales and purchase ledger to ensure that working capital is maximised
  • Develop, improve and implement a robust reporting and control framework to ensure financial integrity
  • Assist in the annual budget / reforecast process
  • Management of monthly costs ensuring costs are well understood, controlled and budgeted for and efficiencies are gained where possible
  • Help develop commercial and financial awareness across HQ teams to improve financial capability
  • Management of monthly payroll process and deliver payroll analysis for HQ and stores to ensure annual costs are controlled to budget
  • Business partner the Executive team to maximise business performance through financial support and challenge
  • Manage year-end audit process, though to production of statutory accounts and other reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with Corporation tax, VAT and other indirect tax requirements
  • Help develop commercial and financial awareness across HQ teams to improve financial capability

 Person specification

  • A qualified accountant with experience of working in the retail environment
  • Strong technical accounting skill
  • Excellent leadership qualities with the ability to motivate, develop and coach team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advance excel skills
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision making
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and ownership
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Result focused and flexible working approach
