Kitchen Porter Job Description 2023
Wash and clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment promptly and efficiently. Use dishwasher, wash items by hand and ensure that all equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
Work with the front of house and wait team to ensure dishes, cutlery and glasses are organised and tidy in the kitchen porter section, ensuring the wait and front of house-team are scraping the plates properly and recycling napkins and other paper.
Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment. Including cleaning work surfaces, floors, walls, and equipment. Clean and organise food storage and cleaning equipment storage areas including dry store, toilet and bar areas when needed.
Assist disposing of wage and refuge ensuring safe disposal and recycling are properly sorted and disposed of according to regulations. Maintain rubbish bins.
When necessary, receive, check, and store kitchen supplies equipment and ingredients. Organising stock shelves, rotating inventory, and informing kitchen staff of low levels.
Support kitchen team by performing various tasks as needed: basic food preparation, peeling vegetables, washing produce, and helping with plating and garnishing dishes.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Including using appropriate cleaning chemicals, wearing protective uniform, and following proper food handling and storage procedures.
Collaborate and support kitchen team, front of house and bar team to ensure efficient workflow and effective communication.
As part of a larger team, the kitchen porters are required to assist in other areas of the restaurant which may include but is not limited to window cleaning, toilet checks and maintenance, checking laundry stock and storage, and cleaning the floors. Maintain effective communication with restaurant departments and senior support team, sharing relevant information when required to ensure smooth restaurant operations. Provide ideas and solutions to resolve issues whilst contributing to a cohesive and positive team environment.
