Head Receptionist | PYRO | Borough, London
Salary: Up to £45,000 (Including service charge) DOE
Hours: Full-time, permanent
About PYRO
A celebration of cooking over fire, PYRO is a bold, 95-cover restaurant in the heart of Borough from ex-HIDE Head Chef Yiannis Mexis. Showcasing refined Greek flavours, seasonal produce, and a laid-back taverna-style energy, PYRO is all about food to linger over and service that feels like home. With our large outdoor terrace and garden bar at the centre of our operations, we are looking for an exceptional lead presence to own our front-of-house arrival experience.
The Role
The Head Receptionist is the first and last point of contact, and the person who sets the standard for everyone on the desk. You will lead a reception team of four, conduct the dining room, manage the flow of the restaurant, and ensure every arrival feels like a homecoming.
This is a hands-on leadership role. Alongside running service, you will own the systems that keep reception sharp: training completion, daily and weekly checklists, function sheets, and the reservations inbox. Anything that sits above that line is picked up by the senior team, so your focus stays on the desk, the team, and the guest.
We need someone who can handle a fast-paced Borough service with grace, intelligence, and a genuine smile, and who can hold a team to that same standard.
Must-Have Requirements
- Team Leadership: Proven experience leading and developing a reception or host team, holding standards, and managing rotas and performance day to day.
- Training Ownership: Confidence in delivering and signing off training for new and existing team members, and keeping records current.
- Systems and Process: Ownership of checklists, function sheets, and the reservations inbox, with the discipline to keep them accurate every single day.
- Technical Savvy: Working knowledge of the backend of SevenRooms or OpenTable, not just the front end. You can build and amend floor plans, manage availability, configure shifts, and pull reporting.
- Exceptional Hospitality: A natural ability to deliver world-class service standards with a taverna-style warmth that makes every guest feel at home.
- Organisational Brilliance: Proven experience managing reservations, floor plans, and guest flow in high-volume and premium venues.
- Commercial Mindset: Ability to maximise covers and manage the books to drive revenue while maintaining a seamless guest experience.
- Communication Skills: A confident, professional phone and email manner, and the ability to liaise effectively between the kitchen, the floor team, and private dining clients.
- Peak Service Leadership: A proactive
