Description
La Compagnie Neal's Yard is a gem hidden away in Neal’s Yard, right in the heart of Covent Garden. Spread across two floors plus a terrace, La Compagnie is an exploration of some of world’s best wines, with a highlight on smaller producers and hard-to-find bottles.

Job: Sommelier

Based in: Neal’s Yard, London

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be present throughout service ensuring smooth running of all operations.
  • Greet and interact with guests.
  • Present and explain the wine menu to guests. Be familiar with all the wines on the list and their prices.
  • Create a welcoming environment for our guests, assess their needs and make wine recommendations.
  • Advise customers on the best choice of wine to have with their meal. Use your knowledge of different wines to help our customers decide which to have. Make sure to consider which types of wine they have enjoyed in the past, and their budget.
  • Recommend food and wine pairings. Advise guests on wines based on their personal tastes and food choices.
  • Once the guest has selected a wine, take the order, and make sure to bring it to the table with the appropriate glass, pour it for the guest to taste.
  • Standard table maintenance as well as light food preparation.
  • Deliver bills and charge guests.
  • Ensure that the services delivered are in line with Experimental’s standards and the venue DNA.
  • Make sure the cellar is kept clean, tidy, and organised, and that the wines are stored at the correct temperature.
  • Make sure that all wine glasses and equipment are used, stored, cleaned, and handle correctly and safely.
  • Set-up the tables and ensure the good overall presentation of the wine bar.
  • Apply all food and beverage safety and quality regulations.

ABOUT YOU

  • Certified Sommelier (WSET or equivalent).
  • Experience in a similar role within a comparable venue.
  • Have a knowledge of wine business management principles and practices.
  • Have an appetite for teamwork.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
  • Be well spoken with excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to details and customer needs.
  • Social, engaging, and motivated.
  • Flexibility to respond quickly and positively to a range of work situations.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
